Mary Ann Sklenar

Mary Ann (Cusick) Sklenar, 80, of South Windsor, beloved wife of Robert R. Sklenar died peacefully on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at Rockville Hospital surrounded by her family. She was born on March 1, 1935 in Omaha, NE, daughter of the late George and Helen (Healy) Cusick. Mary Ann was a graduate of Mercy High School with the Class of 1953. She was married to Robert R. Sklenar on August 8, 1959 and together they settled in South Windsor in 1963. She worked in accounting for several offices throughout the years including the Hartford Hospital business office. Mary Ann was a woman who put others before herself. She was thoughtful, kind, strong and selfless. She was a parishioner of St. Margaret Mary Church in South Windsor. Mary Ann volunteered for many years with the American Cancer Society and was instrumental in organizing the Daffodil fundraising sale each spring. She loved to cook, golf, spend time on the beach and travel. A kind, caring and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, she will be greatly missed by all. Along with her husband Robert she leaves her children, Cathy Beaulieu and her husband Roger of Cromwell and Patrick Sklenar of Manchester; and two grandchildren who, she once said, were the best two gifts she ever received, Lillian and Joshua Beaulieu of Cromwell. She was predeceased by her siblings, Colleen, Judy, Michael and Kernan. Mary Ann's family wishes to thank the Rockville Hospital ICU doctors and nurses who cared for her during her final hours and minutes. A special thanks to nurses Hollie and Joanna along with Chaplain Julia Mudge. Also, her home health aide Audrey for over a year not only took great care of Mary Ann she became a member of our family. Family and friends may gather on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at 9 a.m. at the Samsel & Carmon Funeral Home, 419 Buckland Rd., South Windsor; followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at St. Margaret Mary Church. Burial will follow in Wapping Cemetery, South Windsor. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
