Arthur J. Healy Sr., 93, of Manchester, NH, died March 29, 2002, at Hillsborough County Nursing Home after a lengthy illness.

He was born in Newburyport, Ma, January 22, 1909, and was the son of John J. and Mary (Donahue) Healy. He lived most of his life in Manchester.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the 90th Infantry Division, which gained fame in Normandy in the early days of the invasion. He also fought in the famous battle of Foret de Mont Castre, as well as the capture of the city of Le Mans and the closing of the Falaise Gap, which resulted in the capture of several thousand German prisoners.

Mr. Healy retired in 1974 as plant manager of the C. Leary and Company. He began work with the company's Newburyport, Ma. plant in 1925 and after several years was transferred to become manager of the Manchester, NH plant. After the Manchester plant closing, he became manager of the Plaistow, NH plant and when production facilities were consolidated in 1970, he became plant manager in Newburyport.

He was a member of the American Legion, Post 79, and the Turn Verein.In addition he was a communicant of St. Raphael Church.

He was married to Alberta (Pepin) Healy, who died in 1989.

Family members include a son, Arthur "Jere" Healy Jr. of New Port Richey, FL; 2 daughters, Mrs. Richard (Patricia) Janelle of Bedford, NH and Mrs. Thomas (Janet) Payne of Bow, NH; 8 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by 2 brothers, John and William Healy, and 2 sisters, Alice Murphy and Catherine Healy.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Tuesday April 2, 2002 in St. Raphael Church. Burial was in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford.
