William H. Baxley III, DMD Greenville, SC Dr. William H. Baxley III, "Bill," 57, of 125 W. Mountainview Ave, died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, of a rare neurological disease. Born January 25, 1950, in Hartsville, S.C., he was a son of Merle Davis Baxley and the late William H. Baxley II. Dr. Baxley was a graduate of Clemson University. He received his doctorate in dentistry from the Medical University of South Carolina. He practiced dentistry in Abbeville, S.C., for twenty-two years. He was the "temporary" organist for fourteen years at Main Street United Methodist Church in Abbeville. As a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, he was a former chair of the vestry, and a volunteer with United Ministries. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his companion of many years, Steven Wood of Greenville; a daughter, Dr. Jennifer Baxley Baker, and husband, Kiel, of Columbia, S.C.; a son, Davis Rutledge Baxley, and wife, Jenny, of Lexington, S.C.; three brothers, Dr. Luke "Buddy" Baxley and wife, Kathy, and Judge J. Michael Baxley, all of Hartsville, S.C., and Dr. G. Timothy Baxley and wife, Janet, of Seneca, S.C.; and a granddaughter, Baxley Grace Baker. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 7, 2007, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Fr. David Upton officiating. The ashes will be entombed in the columbarium at the church. The family will receive friends and celebrate Bill's life at the home following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to UCSF, Memory and Aging Center, Attention Tami Scott, 350 Parnusses Ave., Suite 706, San Francisco, CA 94117, for the study of GSS disorder.
