Michael Markham Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 7, 2008.
Michael James Markham December 16th, 1946 – December 7th, 2008 Mike Markham grew up in Riddle, Oregon graduating as a three sport letterman and salutatoriun. He graduated from Oregon State University where he became a 5’9 starting guard on the basketball team and also a catcher on the baseball team. He attended OHSU and practiced neurosurgery, retiring in 2007. His devotion to his profession was expressed by his skill and compassion. Mike is survived by his sons Jeff and Luke Markham, both of San Francisco, his father William Markham and brothers, Pat and William Markham. He is also survived by Levi Query, the love of his life for the past 22 years and her children, Crystal, Nate and Toby. This remembrance is brief in deference to Mike’s aversion to accolades and the spotlight. He quietly excelled at being a good human being, one who added immeasurably to the world in all respects. A gathering to honor Mike will be held at a yet undetermined date and time. Remembrances to OSU Scholarship, Forest Park foundation or Golden Retriever Rescue, may be sent in his name.

I was so saddened when my Christmas card to Michael was returned with "Passed away" on it. I served with him in the Army. We both worked in the E.R. in Heidelberg, W. Germany. I always respected him and his professionalism. My friend Jennifer and I have so many fond memories of him. You get pretty close in these circumstances. One of my oldest friends. May he be rewarded for his great service wherever he may be.

I enjoyed playing sports against you. I believe you were a good guy and a credit to Riddle.

Today I learned that Dr. Markham passed away nearly 8 years ago. I mentioned to my physical therapist that he had done my back surgery and that he had changed my life. I am so sorry for your loss and will always remember how safe I felt in his hands. Rest in God's peace.

I fell and fractured my neck in1996. Dr.Markham was my surgeon and removed a disc and a half in my neck to help with pain and movement. I didn't think anything would help to correct the situation, but his surgery did the trick. I am grateful to him and I hope I let him know! I was staying at my mom's while I was healing and asked my mom to call Dr. Markham after the third day of recovery because I was still in pain. He told mom to tell me that it is a slow process and I will see a significant difference in time, he was right, he also told my mom to tell me that I was no spring chicken (we both got a laugh out of that, I had just turned 44). I was shocked3gr and saddened to hear of Dr Markham's death. Rest in peace.
