Lela Fournet Vincent, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2009, in Knoxville, Tennessee in a moment of peace and tranquility, surrounded by her loved ones. Lela was affectionately known by her close friends and family members as “Honey,� a name which best describes her kind and sweet disposition. She was born on September 8, 1923, in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana, the daughter of the late John Baptiste Fournet and Rose Dupuis Fournet. She was raised in New Orleans, where she attended Sacred Heart Academy and graduated from Louise S. McGhee School for Girls. She graduated from Sophie Newcomb College, where she was a member of the AOP sorority. During World War II, she volunteered for various patriotic organizations. She married Roger Gabriel Vincent, with whom she raised six children. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband and is survived by her children; Roger G. Vincent, Jr., Anne Vincent Mathiak, Rose Vincent Fraser, Jane Vincent, Blake Vincent, and Scott Vincent; a brother, John Dupuis Fournet of Jackson, Mississippi; twelve grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA (in Metairie Cemetery) on Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 11:00 AM. Visitation Saturday morning from 10:30 AM until funeral time. Interment will follow in All Saints Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations to Alzheimer's or breast cancer research.
