ROEBUCK, Jr., John P., 80, of Tampa, passed away November 11, 2009. Born in St. Petersburg, FL and raised in Tampa, he graduated from Hillsborough H.S. two years ahead of schedule at the age of 14. He attended Georgia Tech and the University of Florida where he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Engineering. He also served in the U.S. Air Force as a First Lieutenant. Mr. Roebuck spent 32 years in the aggregates, cement and concrete products industries in general and executive management positions with the Cone family owned Tampa Sand and Material Company which through a merger with the McKethan family became Florida Mining and Materials, and was later acquired by Moore McCormack Resources, and then Southdown Incorporated. He was a Past Chairman of the Florida Concrete and Products Assoc. and member of the Association’s Board and Executive Committees. Mr. Roebuck assisted in the establishment of the Concrete Promotion Council of Florida and served as the organization’s Charter President for a two-year term; assisted in the establishment of the Construction Materials Engineering Council and served as Chairman for a three-year term; Chaired the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Committee for Standard Practice for Laboratories Testing Concrete and Concrete Aggregates for Use in Construction and Criteria for Laboratory Evaluation and Accreditation for a three year term; was an Honored Fellow of the ASTM Committee on Concrete and Aggregates, and the American Concrete Institute; and was the Author of numerous technical publications on aggregates, fly ash and load bearing and structural concrete. He served on the Vestry and as a Junior Warden at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church, and later served on the Vestry and building committee of the Church of the Resurrection; was an avid fresh and salt water angler with a special fondness for the Florida backwaters; and a member of the Tampa Yacht and Country Club. He is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Sally; son Stephen Roebuck and wife Mary Francis; daughter Laura Day and husband Robert; grandsons Rob Day and wife Kami and Brian Day and wife Chelce; granddaughters Anna Day, Ashley Day, Kathryn Parker and Chelsea Parker; great granddaughters Brooklyn Day and Savannah Day; great grandson Carter Day; sister Martha Marshall and husband Dr. Thomas Marshall; aunt Frances Woodward; cousins Scott Woodward, Merriam Collins and husband Shan, John Preston and wife Sarah and William Preston and wife Jane; nieces Melanie Marshall, Alison Marshall, Suzanne Spiller and husband Ron, and Deborah Piper; nephew Kevin Piper and many great nieces. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 4:00 p.m. at Hyde Park United Methodist Church.
