Leta M. Johnson

Leta Johnson, 80, of Creston, died Tuesday, November 14, 2006 at Afton Care Center in Afton. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday Nov. 16, 2006 at Powers Funeral Home 601 New York Ave. in Creston. Rev. Dr. Diana Leaf will officiate. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Creston. Open visitation will be from 2 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 15, at the Powers Funeral Home in Creston. Memorials are to be established. Online condolences may be given under the obituary category at www.powersfh.com. Leta Maxine Johnson, daughter of Mary Ann (Pullman) and Jasper Clarence Yount was born September 30, 1926 in Creston. She graduated from Thayer High School. On August 19, 1946 she was united in marriage to Max Hoover Johnson in Thayer, Iowa. They lived in Thayer, where she and her husband co-owned and operated a grocery store. They moved to Creston in 1950. Leta was a clerk at the Fareway Grocery Store in Creston for many years. Leta was a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Creston and the Elks Lodge of Creston. Survivors include one son: Dave (wife Joyce) Johnson of Creston; one daughter Marsha (husband Gary) Davis of Creston; seven grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Max in 1983, her son Stephen Johnson; one sister Betty Hall and two brothers: Dale and Duane Yount.
