Robert Boling Casebolt, 86, of Charleston, passed away on Friday, September 24, 2010, at Tiffany Hall Rehab and Nursing Center, Port St. Lucie, Florida. He was a lifelong resident of Kanawha Valley, and the last surviving child of the late Harold and Norma Hudnall Casebolt. Bob was born April 23, 1924, in Diamond. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Edana M. Casebolt; and brothers, Richard of Panama City, Florida, and Vernon of Nitro. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Pamela S. Casebolt Gray and her husband, Gale L. Gray, of Charleston; son, Robert H. Casebolt and his wife, Connie Belcher Casebolt, of Port St. Lucie, Florida; grandchildren, Byron M. and Emily L. Gray of Charleston, Amanda “Mandy� Casebolt of Port St. Lucie, and Lori Church and husband, Stephen, of Johnson City, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews. Bob attended DuPont High School, where he played on the football team proudly as number 30. While he was attending high school, he entered the Unites States Army during World War II. Bob became a member of the 247th Combat Engineering Battalion; whose job was to be responsible for the demolition and blasting prior to entering combat. On December, 1945, he was honorably discharged after being awarded the ‘Purple Heart’ for wounds he received in Germany during combat October, 1944. Bob was also awarded other distinguished medals for his bravery and service to our country. He was employed by Diamond Shamrock, Inc. in Belle as chemical operator, retiring in 1986 from Oxy Chemicals. After his retirement, Bob enjoyed exercising at the Charleston YMCA, gardening, fishing at Myrtle Beach, and of course watching a good football game. He was a member of Malden Methodist Church, Malden. Bob will be greatly missed by his family and friends at the Rand Senior Citizen Center. “For every tear that falls…there is a memory in my heart for you.� A service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 1, 2010, at Stevens & Grass Funeral Home, Malden, with the Rev. Mike Richards officiating. The burial will follow the service with military rites in Graceland Memorial Park, South Charleston. Family and friends may share in this celebration of his life on Thursday, September 29, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
