David Pointer, Jr. (Bud) passed away on Tuesday March 29, 2011. He was 78. Beloved husband of Helen Joiner Pointer (Pudney). Son of the late David and Lester McLure Pointer. Father of David Taylor Pointer (wife Carol), Edward Joiner Pointer (wife Marilyn), and Anne Pointer Heaviside (husband Jeff). Grandfather of David, Paige, Andrew and Shelby Pointer and Connor and Helen Heaviside. Also survived by his sister, Anne Pointer Kennedy of Hammond, Louisiana, and his brother Monroe Pointer of Olive Branch, Mississippi. Bud was raised in Como, Mississippi. He graduated from Battle Ground Academy in Franklin, Tennessee, and received a BBA from The University of Mississippi, where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity. After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he returned to Ole Miss and earned an MBA. He moved to New Orleans in 1958 and began a 51-year banking career, starting at Whitney National Bank and retiring from Bank of Louisiana, with a two-year stint during which he worked alongside his father at the State Bank of Como. He attended the School of Banking of the South in Baton Rouge, and the School of Consumer Banking at the University of Virginia. He was a member of several carnival organizations. Bud’s primary hobby was his children and grandchildren. He will be missed by his many friends, as well as his neighbors from Nashville Avenue and Camp Street who found him endlessly entertaining. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Memorial Service at Christ Church Cathedral, 2919 St. Charles Avenue New Orleans, La. on Friday, April 1, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Visitation will be from 9:15 a.m. until service time. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Newman School Athletic Department, 1903 Jefferson Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70115.
