Elizabeth Jane (Boustead) Pugsley was born in Woodbine, Iowa on June 18, 1926. Betty was one of eight children born to Banie Marie (O’Banion) and Harry Henry Boustead. Betty was a drum majorette at Woodbine High School graduating in 1944 and took her first job in Omaha. Betty married Jim Pugsley in 1945. She was a military wife moving to countless air force bases and finally settled in Washington State in 1963. Betty worked most of her life for the civil service. One of her favorite jobs was as a buyer for the Base Exchange at Shilling Air Force Base in Salina, Kansas. Her last position was administrative assistant to the General at Madigan Hospital where she retired in 1985. Many people at Madigan attended her retirement because of all those she helped. With her husband she managed a farm, an aerial photography business and a logging truck business. Betty enjoyed Broadway and small town musicals, crocheting, planting flowers and tending to her favorite flowers, dahlias. She also enjoyed baseball, football and bird watching. She was passionate about the Seattle Seahawks and the Seattle Mariners. Her greatest joy was caring for her beloved family. Betty died on Tuesday, April 5, 2011, in Rainier, Washington at the age of 84 years, nine months, and 18 days. Betty was preceded in death by her brother Max and husband of 59 years James Pugsley. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Reichel of Rainier, Washington; son Marc Pugsley of Rainier, Washington; grandsons, David, Daniel and Nick; granddaughter, Kim; seven great grandchildren; brothers Jack Boustead of Woodbine, Iowa, Bob Boustead of Cottage Grove, Oregon, Lyle Boustead of Cottage Grove, Oregon, Jim (Joan) Boustead of Woodbine, Iowa; sisters, Donna Reynolds and Mary (Max) Poe both of Woodbine, Iowa. A funeral service was held Saturday, April 9, 2011 at Mills and Mills in Tumwater, Washington.
