Rita L. (Demers) Sullivan, 66, of Dracut, died peacefully Saturday June 11, 2011, at the Lowell General Hospital, following a courageous, nine year battle with Meningioma brain tumors. She was surrounded by family and friends. Rita was the wife of William H. "Sully" Sullivan with whom she was married for forty-four years. Born in Lowell on April 7, 1945, She was a daughter of the late Leo and Leontine (Gagnon) Demers. Rita graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1962 and later attended Middlesex Community College in Lowell. For more than thirty five years, Rita had been employed as a bookkeeper for Gerald Cole, CPA until illness forced her retirement. She was also the co-owner of Sully's Tuxedos of Lowell where she spent many wonderful years working alongside Sully, their daughter, and close friends. Rita had a true passion for life. She was a lover of music, having been an accomplished songwriter. Dancing was something Rita enjoyed often. She was a woman who loved fashion and clothing and was always admired for her style. She was a strong, fancy, faithful and kind woman whose loving spirit and zest for life was inspirational. In addition to her husband, Bill, she is survived by a brother, Robert Demers of Haverhill; a sister, Lorraine Bergeron of Dracut, many dear friends and several nieces and nephews. She also had two Irish setter companions, Phoenix and Tucson who meant a great deal to her. She was the adoring mother of the late Holly D. Sullivan, who passed away unexpectedly on June 17, 2007. She was the sister of the late Blanche-Laponte, Leo Demers and Roland Demers.

Bill, I am so sad to hear about Rita's passing. Having worked together for so many years at Gerry Cole's, she had a big influence on my life. She was a strong-willed, kind-hearted, loving person and my life is better for having known her.

My prayers are with you

Rita and I met in our freshman year of high school (at St. Joseph's). We were 14 year old girls. We grew up and learned about life throughout our teenage years. We were close...We had
respect and love for each other and we had FUN growning up. I will never forget how close we were.

Love you forever, Rita. I'll be seeing you and Holly some day....

SAFELY HOME I am home in Heaven, dear ones, Oh, so happy and so bright! There is perfect joy and beauty in this everlasting light. All the pain and grief is over, every restless tossing passed; I am now at peace forever, safely home in Heaven at last. Then you must not grieve so sorely, for I love you dearly still. There is work still waiting for you, so you must not idly stand, do it now, while life remaineth. When that work is all completed, He will gently call you Home. Oh, the rapture of that meeting, Oh, the joy to see you come.
