Norman G. Dorst, age 77, of 1661 McPoland Ave., 4:30 a.m. Sunday, November 16, 2008, at home, of natural causes. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Dubuque. Burial will be at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday in Highland Memorial Park Cemetery, New Berlin, Wis. Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Behr Funeral Home, 1491 Main St. Friends also may call from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Norman was born on February 28, 1931, in Mayville, Wis., son of James and Emma (Wolff) Dorst. Norm served as a corporal in the Army during the Korean War. He married Mary V. Runde on December 15, 1958, in Milwaukee; she preceded him in death on January 26, 1989. He later married Sheila (Ansel) Sharkey on January 18, 1992, in Moline, Ill. Norm worked as an engineer at Advance Transformer for 12 years until his retirement in 1996. He was a member of A.S.M.E. for many years. Norm loved gardening and being in the sunshine, listening to music and traveling. He enjoyed watching the Packers and the Badgers. He was an avid Free-Cell player. Survivors: his wife, Sheila Sharkey-Dorst, of Dubuque; his daughters, Denni (Brian) Kraus, of Milwaukee, Wis., Dana (Michael) Neuman, of Milwaukee, Wis., Tammy (Michael) Bahls, of Dubuque, Tina (Steve) Miller, of Mesa, Ariz.; his sons, Dan (Michele) Dorst, of Minneapolis, Minn., Tom Sharkey, of Dubuque, Todd (Tammy) Sharkey, of Dubuque; 11 grandchildren, Mara Kraus, Megan (Adam) Brill, Derek and Mason Neuman, Tiffany (fiancé, Francisco Ramos) Bahls, Tara Bahls, Danielle Sharkey, Jordan, Josh and Wyatt Sharkey and Lauralynn Scherr; 2 sisters, Genevieve (Lloyd) Guenther, of Mayville, Wis., Marion Reuter, of Kenosha, Wis.; 2 brothers, Harold (Doreen) Dorst, of Menomonee Falls, Wis., James (Dorothy) Dorst, of Mayville, Wis.; many nieces and nephews He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Mary Dorst; a daughter, Donna, in 1960; a grandson, Austin Koppes, in 1995; and a brother-in-law, Paul Reuter. A Norman G. Dorst Memorial Fund has been established. The family would like to express their thanks to Hospice of Dubuque, especially Sherry, Jenny and Edna, St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the staff at Dubuque Internal Medicine, especially Dr. Schope and Dr. Brian Moran and the staff at Hartig Homecare, especially Kathy, for their care and concern for Norm and the family.
