Robert Reese Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 4, 2012.
Robert H. Reese, affectionately known as Daddy, Daddy Reese, Granddaddy Reese and Gilbert, was born June 26, 1920 in Villa Ridge, Illinois to the union of William and Ellen Reese. He attended Douglas High School in Villa Ridge and was a wiz at math. Robert married Glendora McGinnis in June 1938 and later moved to Chicago. This union was blessed with 8 children, 4 boys and 4 girls. Robert made sure that the family was grounded in the church as he also made a personal confession of faith in Jesus Christ. Robert truly loved his family, and his grandchildren could do no wrong. He especially enjoyed Saturday mornings eating biscuits and gravy, bacon and fried pork chops. Robert was known for his sense of style. He loved to dress and look sharp. The neighborhood kids called him Tennessee Tuxedo because of the way he dressed and walked. The entire family loved to see Daddy as he dressed to impress. Robert served his country faithfully in the Army during World War II and he received a World War II Victory medal and the Bronze Battle Star upon his discharge. Robert worked for the United States Postal Service and retired after 42 years of service. He also worked part-time for the Yellow Cab company so that he could enjoy his favorite past time of bowling. Robert and the entire family united with the Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Woodrow Taylor in 1955. He served on the Deacon Board and sang in the Men's choir faithfully until his membership moved to Third Baptist Church under the pastorate of Rev. Elmer Fowler in the 1970's. In 2011 Robert moved this membership to Little Mountain of Hope Ministries under the pastorate of Rev. Slayton Palms Jr. Robert was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings, his wife Glendora and his second oldest son Lovell. Robert leaves to cherish his memory 7 children, James (Lula) Reese, William (Vickie) Reese, Carl (Carol) Reese, Barbara (Fernando) Ellis, Sharon (Anthony) Owens, Evangelist Yvonne Williams, Evangelist Beverly Washington; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 7 great, great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
