Barbara Ann Holmes Stoudt died May 1, 2012 at Westminster-Canterbury of the Blue Ridge in Charlottesville, Virginia. Barbara was born in Alberta, Virginia to Charles W. Holmes and Dorothy W. Holmes. She was graduated from Randolph Macon Women's College in 1951 and received an M.A. in mathematics from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor in 1960. During her teaching career she taught high school mathematics in Virginia and Michigan. In 1957, she married Ralph J. Stoudt, Jr., a speech pathologist. They adopted two daughters, Dorothy Anna and Charlotte Lyzabeth. During Barbara's years in Charlottesville, she was active in many community, church, and University programs. A longtime member of the University's Women's Club, she served as its president from 1985-1986. Barbara was a member of the First Presbyterian Church for over three decades. She sang in the choir, served as a Deacon and a Ruling Elder, and accompanied the church's youth group for retreats at the Montreat Conference Center in North Carolina. She is survived by her husband, Ralph; her daughters, Dottie and Charlotte; her son-in-law, Peter A. DeCesare, and three grandchildren, Anton Peter DeCesare, Nina Lyzabeth DeCesare, and Dominic Charles DeCesare. The family will receive condolences at the Teague Funeral Home, 2260 Ivy Road, on Wednesday, May 16 from 7 to 8 pm. A memorial service celebrating Barbara's life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 500 Park Street, Charlottesville Thursday, May 17 at 1pm. The service will be followed by a brief ceremony to inter her ashes at the University of Virginia Cemetery's Columbarium, located at the intersection of Alderman and McCormick Roads. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Phillips Cancer Center at the Martha Jefferson Hospital, 500 Martha Jefferson Drive, Charlottesville, 22911.
