John J. Lintner, 80, of Lafayette, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2012 at his residence, surrounded by his family. Born April 4, 1932 in Chicago, IL, he was the son of the late Dr. John J. Lintner II and Lucille (Luers) Lintner. John graduated from Rensselaer High School in 1950. He served in the US Air Force from 1952 to 1956 as a photographic technician in the Strategic Air Command. After his honorable discharge, John moved to the West Point area and worked over forty years for Commercial Photography in Lafayette. His first marriage was to Peggy Joyce Swing in Rensselaer and they later divorced. John married Doris (Gephart) Bowen on June 30, 1972 in Pine Village. John enjoyed aviation and earned his private pilots license as a teenager while working at the Rensselaer Airport. He loved boating in Lake Michigan and the Ohio River, especially at their weekend place near Madison, IN. Surviving with his wife of forty years are sons, John J. Lintner, Jr. (companion, Jennifer Hunter) of Lutz, FL, Steve Bowen (wife, Wanda) of Boswell and Jeff Bowen also of Boswell; a grandson, Ryan Lintner of Cincinnati, OH; step-grandchildren, Shawn Yantis of Knoxville, TN, Chris Yantis of Lafayette and Michelle Yantis of Otterbein; eight step-great grandchildren and sister-in-laws Donna Booth of Las Vegas, NV and Phyllis Gephart of Tucson, AZ. He is also survived by cousins, Rev. Richard Lintner (wife, Gloria) of Urbandale, IA and Ruth Russell of Grand Ledge, MI; and former wife Peggy Orr (husband, Allen) of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by a son, Tim Lintner of Valkaria, FL in September 2001. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hippensteel Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow with Pastor Lore Blinn Gibson officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. John will be remembered for his quick wit, sense of humor and his love of family and friends. Hippensteel Funeral Home entrusted with care.
