Ann B. Smiley

Ann B. Smiley, 87, of Spring Hill, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 26 at the HPH Hospice Care Center in Brooksville. She was born to the late Hiram and Annie Belle Shannon on December 29, 1924, in Sanford, Florida. Ann married the late William (Bill) Smiley on February 24, 1946 and they lived together in Miami, FL before relocating to Spring Hill in 1979. Ann taught kindergarten in their private day school in Miami. She was very passionate about making a difference in the lives of children. In retirement she continued that passion by substitute teaching in the Hernando County School System. Ann was always an active church member until a few years before her passing. She loved to sing in the choir. Ann thoroughly enjoyed her retirement and cooking many meals for family celebrations. She loved reading, doing puzzles, and needle work. She lived her life by the quote "It is more blessed to give than to receive". She was always willing to help out someone in need and had a very kind heart. Ann is survived by her three daughters: Carol Mayer, Diane Nolan, and Jean Fox. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind three sisters, Gwen Spivey, Elizabeth Turrlington, and Doris Caton; along with many other loving relatives and friends. Visitation is from 6p.m.-8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Brewer & Sons Funeral Homes. The Funeral Service will follow at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 also at Brewer & Sons Funeral Homes. Chaplain Chuck Merkle will be officiating.
