Robert James Katzenberger was born June 24, 1920, to Noble and Adella (Cleveland) Katzenberger in O'Neill, Nebraska. He moved with his family to Woodbine in 1928 and attended country school. He worked as a farm hand and traveled with the threshing crews through Kansas and Nebraska. Bob proudly served his country in the United States Navy with his two brothers. After his honorable discharge he returned to the Dunlap area to farm. Bob married Myrna Block on April 14, 1952, at the Modale Catholic Church. The coupled lived in Missouri Valley and Council Bluffs before returning to Dunlap in 1958 to continue farming. Bob was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and served on the parish council. He loved to raise cattle and to farm. He also enjoyed going to auctions and had three of his own auctions. His auction number was always 1200. Bob and Myrna loved kids and took in children to help raise them. He was very loving and generous. Bob died on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at the Rose Vista Nursing Home in Woodbine at the age of 92 years, four months, and 25 days. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Myrna Katzenberger on May 20, 1998; great grandson, Kenneth Michael Mabbitt on February 11, 2011; brother, Lyle Katzenberger; and six sisters, Anna McClain, Mabel Stevens, Marie Summers, Charlotte Petersen, Miriam Boyd, and Delores Koski. He is survived by his four children, Roxy and her husband Dennis Moore of Fort Worth, Texas, Renee and her husband Richard Archer of Ames, Iowa, Mary Beth and her husband Michael Mabbitt of Sayre, Oklahoma, Rob Katzenberger and his wife Donelle of Dunlap, Iowa; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; brother, Harold Katzenberger of Denver, Colorado; and many other relatives and friends.
