Kenneth "Kenny" Wayne Spears

Kenneth "Kenny" Wayne Spears, age 61 of Albia, died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Monroe County Hospital in Albia. Kenny was born December 31, 1951 to Daniel and Frances (Tisue) Spears in Oskaloosa, IA. He graduated from Albia High School, class of 1971. He was a jack of all trades. Kenny worked at Vermeer and was a welder on an oil rig. He also farmed, cut wood, and would do mechanic work. Kenny really enjoyed spending time with his grandkids. He also liked being outdoors, mushroom hunting, and raccoon hunting. Kenny is survived by his mother, Frances Spears of Albia; five children, Carmen Spears, Pepper (Larry) Champlin, Carrie (Reggie) Cooper, Brandi (Jerry) Holman, and Bobi Spears; 21 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and siblings, Dennis Spears of Albia, Benny (Annette) Spears of Newton, and Connie (Michael) Haluska of Decorah. He was preceded in death by his father, Daniel; a daughter, Gayla; grandbaby Holman; and his grandparents, Roy and Ester Spears and Harry D. and Carrie Tisue. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Layne McGinnis officiating. Burial will be in Union Chapel Cemetery north of Albia. Visitation will open at 11 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Kenny's family present from 6-8 p.m. Memorials may be given to Kenny's family.
