John Spencer Nabors

NABORS, JOHN SPENCER born in Gorman, Texas, October 23, 1936 to Benjamin V. and Winnie O. Nabors. John graduated from North Dallas High School and attended college in Denton where he excelled in having a good time. John entered the Navy in 1956, was the recipient of The Good Conduct Medal and received his honorable discharge on September 2, 1960. While in the Navy John received a Naval Air Technical Training certificate, so it was his passion to fix and repair things which was evident when he went to work for Matthews Engineering and Brooks Mechanical after leaving the Navy. His life changed when he married the "love of his life" Sue Mauzy on December 30, 1961; together they built a life that would be the envy of all who knew them. He was told many times he "was a very lucky man". In 1982, with Sue's encouragement, they started Nabors Heating and Air Conditioning Services. Many of you here today, became friends with John through his business. He was an honest, hard working man who loved to help anyone he met. It was in 1998 when he would meet his match; you see Tina, his daughter, joined the business and became his right arm, left arm, gofer and apprentice. John knew he had been replaced when often times he would go to a customer's home and they would ask "where's Tina???" John enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially going to the Deer Lease with his buddies; I think they had more fun just being together than they did actually hunting. He was notorious at cheating while playing 31 or any type of cards and he loved being with family and friends and of course driving north to the state line and hearing the ringing of the slot machines. John fell ill in February, 2011. He fought a courageous battle with cancer for over two years. John passed away on March, 9, 2013. He is preceded in death by his parents Benjamin and Winnie Nabors, brother Jimmie D. Nabors and nephew Gary MaGourik. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Sue Nabors, daughter, Tina Nabors, Sister In laws, Judy Moore, Janet Mauzy and Patty MaGourik, Brother In laws, Michael Mauzy and Dennis Moore. Nephews, Kevin, Ted, Stephen Paul, Steven, Rick, Shawn, Gary & Thad, Nieces, Brenda, Shannon & Kelly, Many Grand Nieces and Nephews, and of course his many beloved friends. Family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Restland Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2:30 PM on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Restland Memorial Chapel.
