William J. "Bill" Hein, age 80 of Menomonie, Wisconsin, died unexpectedly on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems in Eau Claire. Bill was born June 9, 1932 in Menomonie, Wisconsin to William and Hazel (Price) Hein. He was a graduate of Boyceville High School Class of 1950 and stayed in the Menomonie area his entire life. He married Doris Marie Ader on February 10, 1956. Over the years, Bill had several different job titles. He was a bartender at The 400 Club and then Bill took on the job of "driving truck". He drove truck hauling cattle to South St. Paul Stockyards for Chuck Groepper, for Wisconsin Milling Company hauling Mink Food and for Mid-Western Block delivering cement. Bill also worked part-time as a DNR Game Warden when called upon. On February 23, 1971 he joined the Menomonie Police Department. Besides the customary "patrol duties"; Bill was a "fire arms training officer", an "Audio Visual Training Officer" and "Senior Breathalyzer Operator." He retired from the Menomonie Police Department on May 31, 1994 at the rank of Lieutenant. For enjoyment, Bill liked to make his occasional "casino runs" with his wife. He also enjoyed hunting with his sons and fishing with the entire family. Bill was known as the "The Family's Handyman", fixing anything that was broken. Most of all; Bill was a caring husband, father and grandfather, who loved spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren's events. He is survived by his wife, Doris of Menomonie; three children, Brenda (Tom) Kalina, Corey (Stacy) Hein and Troy (Beth) Hein, all of Menomonie; four grandchildren, Jordan and Brandon Hein & Dylan and Kaitlyn Hein, all of Menomonie; 2 nephews, John (Angie) Carr of Hamilton, OH and Bill (Linda) Carr of Middletown, OH; other relatives and many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hazel (Price) Hein; and one sister, Beverly Carr-Russell and brother-in-law, John Russell. A Memorial Service will take place on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Olson Funeral Home in Menomonie with Pastor Geoff Scott officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. A private burial will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2013 at Teegarden Cemetery, Lucas Township, Dunn County, Wisconsin.
