James Edward Townsend

James Edward Townsend, 71, of DeWitt Street in New Haven, CT passed away on September 2, 2013, at St. Raphael's Hospital in New Haven. James was the loving husband to Barbara (Stroud) Townsend for 52 years. He was born on December 27, 1941 in Union Spring, AL. to the late Saul Townsend and Willie C. Shell. He worked as a linen Porter for St. Raphael's Hospital for 20 years. He was a devoted father to daughters, Daffie Jones of Hamden, Kathy Townsend of Boston, MA., Mary Townsend of New Haven; brother of Namon Townsend of New Haven, James Arthur (Carolyn) Townsend of Northford, CT; sisters, Edna Melvin of Hollywood, FL., Jessie Townsend of Jacksonville, FL., Bernett Joybrt of Houston, TX.; 4 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by four brothers; Ivory, Saul Jr., John, Bernard.
