Guy Beatty Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 4, 2013.
Guy Beatty, Leading Philanthropist, Dies McLean, Va. - Real estate developer, entrepreneur, and one of the nation's leading philanthropists, Guy E. Beatty, Jr., passed away Friday, October 4th, at lnova Fairfax Hospital. He leaves behind his very best friend and devoted wife of 61 years, Betty, his son John and daughter Susi. He also leaves a daughter-in- law, Deborah Sue, 9 grandchildren, 2 grand-dogs, and 8 great-grandchildren. It is very difficult to find the words to talk about a man who has meant so much to so many. Guy Beatty devoted his life's work to helping others. "Take some, leave some," was one of his favorite sayings, but this man left a legacy that far exceeds any amount of recognition he garnered or wanted. After he began his real estate empire in 1962, with $2000 in his bank account, it didn't take him long to grow his business as he bought, sold, and established partnerships with those who could help him realize his professional goals...and those goals were accomplished beyond his and "Betts" wildest imaginations. It's difficult to imagine how much one life, one man, could affect so many; even more difficult to put into words. There are people in this world Guy Beatty has helped that even his own family isn't aware he assisted. Guy had the innate ability to look at a business opportunity and make it successful. As he grew older, one of his favorite sayings was, "This is God's money, not mine...I've been put in the position to help others and give them an opportunity they may not have otherwise had." He was successful in life because he did what he loved - he took on challenges very few would have taken, turned them into successful ventures, and then handed them over to his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Guy Beatty made the world a better place, and has left his mark in such a vast amount of areas, there are far too many to share here. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Guy Beatty's memory to the Virginia Spinal Research Foundation, 1831 Wiehle Ave., Reston, VA 20190, ATTN: Dr. Thomas Schuler. The family will be holding a private memorial service and celebration of Mr. Beatty's life.

Family of Guy, I am so sorry for your loss of several years ago. I had no idea. Since retiring last year, I am going through closets and basement boxes, and came across cassette tape Susi did called "Whatcha Lookin' At". Guy gave it to me and perhaps some others who worked with him in the real estate industry. I met Guy along with my co-workers at Safeway, where I was a real estate manager. Susi's tape is marked "Not for Sale Promotional use only". Blessings to all. Use to see John years ago, but have lost track.
