Jack Alkema

July 26, 1929 - December 8, 2013 Jack Donald Alkema, age 84 of Zeeland passed away Dec 8, 2013. He was preceded by in death by his parents, Jay & Ada Alkema (Nyeholt), in-laws, Adolph & Ella Huizenga (Kempenaar), brother and his wife, Randy & Anne Alkema (Vantil), sister Kathryn Joyce Alkema, grandson, Benjamin Wittengen. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Adeline Alkema (Huizenga), he is also survived by his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren:Jim (son) and Cindy Jo,Jeff (grandson) and Rebecca, their children Emma, Jacelyn, Lillian, Laurelye. Michelle (Granddaughter) and Ryan their child Gabriel. Justin (grandson) and Jenna their children Roman, Beckham. Kathy (daughter) and Jaakko Hill Candie (granddaughter), Jen (granddaughter) and Joe, their child Jacob, Julie (granddaughter). Sharon (daughter) Boersma Ronda (granddaughter), her children Cody, Adam, Heidi, Kim (granddaughter) and Cory, their children Joslyn, Jaiden Nikki (granddaughter) and Chad, their children Trenten and Ethan. Cyndy (daughter) and Roger Wittingen Tami(Granddaughter) and Jeff their children Austin, Alayna Tonya(Granddaughter) and Eric their children Alivia, Breyden, Addalyn, Zachery Michael (son) and Patti Deb (granddaughter) her children Cory, Rusty, Faith, John, Grace, Harmony (granddaughter) Matt (grandson) Jonathan (grandson) and Sarah Tricia (granddaughter) Ely (granddaughter) Andrew (grandson) and Samantha their children Tristan, Kiera. Kevin (son) and Pamela, Lisa (granddaughter) her children Samantha, Adam, Ben Jayson (grandson) and Jessica Daniel (grandson) his daughter Sophia. Adele (daughter) and Pete Noel Tony (grandson) Jerry (son) and Mandi their children Jack, Ellery, Myah (grandchildren) Scott (son) and Rhonda Kerri (granddaughter) and Warren their children Danielle and her daughter Emerita, Kailey, Ally, Jordyn. Ryan (grandson) and Julie their child Mitchell Alex (grandson) and Ashley Jack was a Korean war veteran 1946-1955; after Korea he was stationed in Battle Creek, then in Stuttgart, Germany, he was honorably discharged as a sergeant. He worked for Roskam Bakery doing horse drawn bread deliveries which was bought out by Oven Fresh Bakery. Jack was the owner operator of the Elms Restaurant in Grandville for 20 years and after that he partnered in RE/MAX Town and Country and retired at the age of 65. Jack was a member of Messiah's Independent Reformed Church and was actively involved in the Gideons for nearly 40 years. Visitation will be Sunday, December 15, 2013 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 South State Street, Zeeland, MI 49464 and Dec 16th from 9:45- 10:45 a.m. at Messiah's Independent Reformed Church. The funeral will be held after the visitation Dec 16th at 11:00 am at Messiah's Independent Reformed Church, 4528 48th Street, Holland, MI 49423.
