Michael Anthony Cronin, 58 of Wakefield, formerly of Reading and Medford died on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 in Boston, following complications of heart surgery.

Deeply loving, devoted, happy, and proudest father of Cameron Michael of Wakefield; dear friend, companion, and husband of Catherine Grace (Cronin) of Wakefield. Dedicated and beloved son of the late John J. Cronin and Marilyn H. Cronin of Reading. Cherished brother of John E. Cronin and his wife Eileen of Plainville and Daniel J. Cronin and his wife Patricia of Wakefield. Survived by nieces Kimberly Barrett and her husband Timothy of Reading, Shannon of Wakefield, Kayla and Kirsten of Plainville, and Alicia Pearsons and her husband Bradd of New Jersey. Dear uncle and godfather to Stacey Cronin of Wakefield and Meghan (Cronin) Iacopucci of Medford. Loving son-in-law of Theresa J. Cronin of Winthrop and brother-in-law to John F. Cronin of Litchfield NH; uncle to Sean and Christine of NH. Loving nephew to Mary (Cronin) McShea of Wareham, godmother Helen (Cronin) McCarran and her husband Francis of Watertown, Walter Cronin and his wife Frances of Medford, and Robert McCarthy of Connecticut. Survived by friend, best buddy and cousin Steven W. Cronin of Medford as well as dear and faithful cousins in the Cronin, James, McShea, Piccarelli, Place, McCarran, Morris, Sachetta, and Crusco families. Registered architect with CSS Architects, Inc. of Wakefield; graduate of Catholic University of America Class of 1978; Arlington Catholic High School Class of 1973. Also leaves behind loving pets Maddie and Remy and a circle of friends who miss him greatly. Michael's devotion to his son, wife, and all his family was the cornerstone of his life. Whether in his Wakefield back yard, his parents' home, or visits to Parkwood Beach in Wareham, he enjoyed every minute in the company of those he loved. Michael's goodness, gentleness, kindness, courage, and profound generosity inspire us, always.

His funeral will be held from the McDonald Funeral Home 19 Yale Avenue, Wakefield Friday July 12 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass in St. Florence Church, 47 Butler Avenue, Wakefield at 10:00 am. Visitors are welcomed at the funeral home on Thursday July 11 between 4 and 8 pm. Interment, Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

My sympathy to Jackie, Danny and all the cousins. Growing up on Maple Ave. would not have been the same without the Cronins! Michael was the quiet one, but he followed cousin Stephen and was part of the gang. I'm sorry I was unable to attend the services (we were away on vacation) and to meet his wife and son. Memories are what we all hold onto at times like these. May your happy memories be a source of comfort.

As a child it was obvious that Michael was different than me. When I was young I thought that these differences such as his love of art, his preference to talk to people rather the compete against them in sports and his interest in getting to know a person were all weaknesses. I'm quite a bit older now and I can now see that these traits were in fact Michael's strengths. These are the qualities that made in special.
Shortly before our Dad passes away Michael was visiting and talking about getting a third dog. After he left, my Dad commented what a crazy idea it was for Michael to get another dog. My reply was "Michael is a very caring person with a lot to give". That's the way he was.......very giving and very caring of each person.
Michael's love of art lead him to a successful career as an architect. His caring of people lead him to be our family's "Social Ambassador"...whenever you needed to know how anyone in the family was doing, you'd talk to Michael. His interest in each individual made him the most active family member in participating in the major events of everyone else's lives.
What I once thought were my brother's weaknesses were in fact his strengths and ironically have turned out to be my weaknesses. I need to strive to be more like Michael in these areas.
I'm proud to say Michael was my brother and I will do my best to remember the life lessons he has taught me through his example.

We are so thankful to have had the opportunity to visit with Michael in Louisiana in March. It was wonderful to reconnect and get to know him again. He will always be remembered as our cute cousin with the "funny accent." Our thoughts and prayers are with all of your families. I know he will be greatly missed.
