Robert E. Gibbons

Robert E. Gibbons, 91, of Avon, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by family Saturday, May 17, 2014. He was born June 24, 1922 in Cleveland the son of the late William and Christine (nee Frank). He was a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD and served his country as an aviator during World War II on the USS Marblehead. He was an Electrical Engineer for General Motors, Parma for 20 years. He then changed careers and went into farming, purchasing his grandparents 25 acre farm in Avon. He also taught electronics, robotics and engineering courses at Lorain County Community College. He authored the book "E.M. Discoveries," and had an interest in weather, science fiction, astrology, Ham Radio, and making wine, jams and jellies and was fluent in Spanish. He was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Avon. He was the beloved husband of Andrea (nee Hernandez), married 40 years; the loving father of Robert W. of New Jersey, Alice Maldonado (Alejandro) of Washington D.C., and Maggie Watson (Breese) of Rocky River; a devoted grandfather of Anabelle, Macy, Shelby and Allan; and dear brother of Eileen Rose of New Jersey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Fr. William Gibbons, and a sister, Jeanne McGroder. Friends may call at the Busch Funeral Home, 32000 Detroit Rd., Avon, from 2-4 and 6-8pm on Tuesday. A Prayer service will be held at the Funeral Home, at 9:15am on Wednesday, May 21st. Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:00am at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 33601 Detroit Rd., Avon. Fr. John Misenko will officiate. Burial at Holy Cross Cemetery, Brook Park.
