Peter Slifka Sr.

Peter Slifka, Sr. Peter Slifka, Sr., 87, formerly of North Syracuse, passed away Sunday, June 15, 2014 in Florida. Born in Syracuse, the son of the late Nestor and Mary Ozogar Slifka, he attended Roosevelt School. He was a World War II Navy veteran who was part of the D Day invasion. A resident of Deltona, Florida, he formerly summered in Cape Vincent. In 1988, Mr. Slifka retired from Centro after 41 years of service. He enjoyed visiting with friends, shopping, traveling, and listening to polkas on Saturday and Sunday while reading the newspaper. He was very handy, liked to fix things and was the 'go to man' for family and friend's projects. Mr. Slifka was predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia Withey on December 26, 2012 and a brother, William Slifka on December 8, 2009. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, the former Jane E. Merrihew; by his children, Peter (Cindy) Slifka, Jr. of North Syracuse, Linda (Kenneth) Provost of Deltona, FL and Rosemary (Paul) Farfaglia of Liverpool; a son-in-law, Armon Withey of Michigan; his sisters, Helen Fallat, Pauline Till, Rosemarie Baker and Margaret LaValle; thirteen grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Services will be Saturday, June 21, 2014 at 9:30am at Fergerson Funeral Home, with Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Rose of Lima Church, North Syracuse. Burial, with military honors, will be in North Syracuse Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday, June 20, 2014 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at the funeral home, 215 South Main Street, North Syracuse.
