Herbert S. Whipple

Herbert S. Whipple, of Needham, died peacefully on July 4, 2014 after a brief battle with cancer. He was 77 years old. He was the beloved husband of the late Nancy (Mitchell) Whipple. Herb is survived by his children, Diane Conde of Townsend, MA, Linda Egan and her husband Tom of Medway, MA, Herbert Whipple and his wife Cindy of Marshfield, MA, the late Ellen Rains of Blackstone, MA, and Thomas Whipple and his wife Amy of Colchester, CT. Brother of Robert Whipple, Joan Chisholm, Ronald Whipple and David Whipple. He was the beloved grandfather of 10 grandchildren, Alicia, Doug, Kaitlyn, Matthew, Amanda, Lindsey, Matthew, Tommy, Michael and Jennifer. And great grandfather to Nicholas and Timothy. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Herb graduated from Boston Trade High School in 1954. After serving four years in the Army National Guard, he was initiated into Plumbers and Gasfitters Union Local 12 of Boston in 1962, of which he was a 52-year member. He was employed by Bay State York of Boston for over 20 years and retired in 1992. Herb enjoyed camping, fly fishing and spending time with his family, about whom he always spoke with great pride. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, July 10 at the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham from 4 to 7 pm. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 11 at 10am at St. Bartholomew's Church, Needham. Interment will be in Needham Cemetery.
