Harry Gold Taylor, age 92, of Danieltown Community, NC, died Thursday, July 24, 2014 at his residence. Born December 31, 1921 in Rutherford County, he was a son of the late Henry Stewart Taylor and Hattie Josephine Queen Taylor. He was a graduate of Ellenboro High School, class of 1940 and served in the US Army Air Force as a mechanic during World War II. Harry was the oldest living member of Sulphur Springs Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and taught Sunday School for fifty-years. He was also a past director and treasurer of the SDO Fire Department and a member of the Rutherfordton Lions Club as well as Woodmen of the World, the American Legion and the VFW. He worked as a salesman for Sterchi's Furniture Store before his retirement and also worked for Stamey's and Dalton Brothers Department Stores for many years. Harry's voice could be heard each day as a faithful community reporter for WCAB Radio since 1987. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Thomas Taylor; sister, Hazel Dycus and a half-sister, Annie Sue Bridges. Survivors include his wife of sixty-four years, Ruby Weaver Taylor; two daughters, Patsy Dickson and husband, Bobby of Blacksburg, SC and Becky Taylor of Huntersville, NC; one granddaughter, Jozie Church and family members by choice, Mike and Connie Grant of Forest City. He is also survived by his faithful pet, Spanky. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at Sulphur Springs Baptist Church with Reverend Ron Wilkins and Reverend Jerry Ruppe officiating. Interment will follow at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery with military honors being accorded by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard. Pallbearers will be Alan Toney, Greg Blake, Rick Greene, Scott Ezell, Eddie Toney, Ronnie Radford. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at Harrelson Funeral Home.
