John Brown Obituary

Published by James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home on Mar. 15, 2014.
John “Jack” L. Brown, 77, of Walpole, formerly of Hyde Park, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Saturday, March 15th, 2014 after a long illness. Born in Boston, MA on November 6, 1936, he was the son of the late Christine (MacLeod) Brown and Amos Lusby Brown, formerly of Nova Scotia. He is survived by his devoted wife of 59 years, Georgiana (Forant) Brown of Walpole. Jack and Georgiana met when they were just 16 and 14. They shared a beautiful life together, filled with enduring love, friendship, family and travel. Jack is also survived by his beloved children, Diana White, and her husband Francis H. of Walpole, Steven, and his wife, Maria (Hurd) Brown, of Lyndeborough, NH, and Jacqueline Gately of Wrentham. His grandchildren held a special place in his heart: Jenna White of Dorchester, Christine White of South Boston, Johnny White of Walpole, Alexandria (Brown) Popores of Bullhead City, Arizona, and Alison Gately and James Gately of Wrentham. He was the brother of the late Edward Brown and his wife Margaret of Lakeville, MA, the late Douglas Brown of Canton, MA, and the late William Brown of Colorado. Several nieces and nephews also survive him.Jack attended Hyde Park High School and proudly served the Marine Corp stationed at the Marine Airwing base at Cherry Point, North Carolina. A resident of Walpole since 1970, Jack was a friend to many, treasuring those he has known for a lifetime as well as new friendships made in later life. He and Georgi traveled across the country in their RV during his retirement. They often summered in Nova Scotia, most notably in Antigonish, where Jack’s family originated, and wintered in Naples, Florida with friends. They were blessed to have friends who were like family in both destinations. Being of Scottish descent, Jack loved the bagpipes, Celtic music, and the Highland Games. Jack had a deep love of all things in nature; he especially loved working in the barn on woodworking and other projects, the quiet of the woods, and the cool autumn weather. He could fix anything, was an excellent cook, and was always prepared. He was happiest spending time with Georgi and his family and friends.

Jack laughed freely, and is lovingly remembered for his caring disposition, positive outlook, and dedication and love for his family. “Take care of one another,” was one of his favorite things to say when parting company.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Jack’s Life Celebration on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 from 5pm to 8pm and Wednesday, March 19, 2014 from 9am to 9:30am in James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home 48 Common Street Walpole. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Saint Jude’s Church 86 Main Street Norfolk on Wednesday, March 19, 2014 @ 10AM. Interment will be at Saint Francis Cemetery Walpole. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Jack’s favorite charity, The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 220 N Main St # 104, Natick, MA 01760 or the charity of your choice.

I remember Mr. Brown fondly, though I did not know him well. I do know that his son Steve is a wonderful, caring person and I am fortunate to have him as my brother-in-law. My thoughts and prayers are with all of the family. Please accept my sincere condolences.

Georgiana, Diana, Steven & Jackie,
I am so deeply saddened by the loss of Jack. Although we all haven't seen each other over the recent years, I have very fond memories of our family's friendship. Memories that include our fun times at your house on the cape (the outhouse & the haunted house down the road), the pork & bean dinners we attended, me and Steven painting the porch, etc. My fondest memory of Jack is the year he planted a magical tree for me around Christmastime, a few beans in the ground and the next day a tree full of candy. I am so sad for you all and I will keep you and Jack in my prayers always.
Fondly,
Trish Mulrean (Phinney)
