Adolf Sehring

Adolf Sehring, 84, of Punta Gorda, Florida passed away Wednesday, March 4, 2015. Adolf was born June 8, 1930 in Urupino, Russia. He emigrated to the U.S. in 1949 at the age of 19. Two years later he joined the U.S. Army and fought in the Korean War. Adolf started drawing at the age of six and over time became a renowned master realist painter and sculptor. He was the only American artist to be commissioned by the Vatican to paint the official Papal portrait of Pope John Paul II. The painting is part of the Vatican collection. He was also commissioned by Gloucester, Virginia to create a bronze sculpture of Pocahontas. Adolf was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend and will be missed greatly by all who loved and knew him. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his caring mother in law, Judy Lowry; his children, Edmund Sehring, Nina Thomas, Marc Sehring, and step son, Christopher Michael McClain; his grandchildren, Jeremy Hubbard, Eric DiMarco, Sophie Sehring and step grandson, Christopher McClain. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Claire and his brother, Harry. A Memorial Service will be held at San Antonio Catholic Church at a later date.
