Joseph Shrier

Joseph Shrier, age 92. Joseph passed away on May 10, 2015. Joe was one of the greatest generation, a veteran of World War II. Following the War he completed his studies in Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, gaining a B.S and M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Class of 1944. He went on to a varied and successful career culminating as a Senior Vice President of McDonald and Co. Investment Banking. Joe enjoyed wood working and photography. He was an active skier, fisherman and particularly a yachtsman. His first boat was Thistle 712, followed by Thistle 2500, Aldebaran and lastly L'Homard. He was a member of the Cleveland Yachting Club, the Rockwell Springs Trout Club and the Hopetown Sailing Club. Joe's generous heart will be remembered by more charitable causes and civic activities then could be listed here. Of particular note he was a long time trustee and several years president of the Goodrich - Gannet Neighborhood Center. Then after the devastation of Hurricane Floyd of 1999 he was a founder and treasurer of the charity PERC to benefit the community of Elbow Cay, which continues to this day. Joe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy, sons Tracy (Susan) and Barry (Annie), daughter Robin Shrier Inman (Bill) and grandchildren Nicholas, Alexander, William, Venice and Christian.
