Joseph Shrier, age 92. Joseph passed away on May 10, 2015. Joe was one of the greatest generation, a veteran of World War II. Following the War he completed his studies in Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, gaining a B.S and M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Class of 1944. He went on to a varied and successful career culminating as a Senior Vice President of McDonald and Co. Investment Banking. Joe enjoyed wood working and photography. He was an active skier, fisherman and particularly a yachtsman. His first boat was Thistle 712, followed by Thistle 2500, Aldebaran and lastly L'Homard. He was a member of the Cleveland Yachting Club, the Rockwell Springs Trout Club and the Hopetown Sailing Club. Joe's generous heart will be remembered by more charitable causes and civic activities then could be listed here. Of particular note he was a long time trustee and several years president of the Goodrich - Gannet Neighborhood Center. Then after the devastation of Hurricane Floyd of 1999 he was a founder and treasurer of the charity PERC to benefit the community of Elbow Cay, which continues to this day. Joe is survived by his wife of 63 years, Dorothy, sons Tracy (Susan) and Barry (Annie), daughter Robin Shrier Inman (Bill) and grandchildren Nicholas, Alexander, William, Venice and Christian. All arrangements will be private. Donations may be made in Joe's name to a charity of donor's choice. 440-333-9774 www.buschcares.com

It was a pleasure to have known both you, Dottie, and Joe. I know his years at HopeTown were special ones. God bless .

To all of the Shrier family, I share in your loss. Joe was a neighbor to me growing up in Westlake, Ohio. Oh yeah! He had the greatest darn tree house in the back yard of his house and one day I trespassed through the woods and climbed in. He spotted me and let me be. (Whew!) I recall riding my trike with his eldest son, Tracy, who was my elementary school classmate. Great fun at the Cleveland Yachting Club, great Christmas parties at the Shriers' home, we grew up together. I remember Joe with fondness and am so happy he reached age 92. My heart goes out to others like me who remember him and miss him. I will remember him forever. So pleased and proud of the charities he supported. Tobey Robertson (Simpson)

It's not what we have in life but who we are that is important. Uncle Joe was a treasure! He had the kindest heart and eyes sparkling with sharp intelligence and humor. He met life's many challenges with positivity. He truly enjoyed life and made the best of any situation. He lived with effortless grace of spirit. Time spent with Uncle Joe was full of laughs because his outlook was infectious and uplifting. You couldn't help but feel accepted and valued in Joe's presence. He touched and improved so many lives. He was truly a gift! We hope to live the lessons he taught us. He will be remembered with endless love & laughter. A life well lived. Lynnette & Tom Titus
