Laura Saenz Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary McCullough on Nov. 14, 2007.
Laura Anne Wheeler Saenz passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord surrounded by her loving family and friends on November 14, 2007 at the age of 51. Surviving immediate family include her beloved husband of 25 years Daniel Saenz, D.D.S. and daughter, Lorena. Parents, Bonnie and Roy Wheeler; brother, Jim and wife Cindy Wheeler; niece, Katie and nephew, Gus. Laura fought a persevering battle with kidney cancer for nearly 2 years. Laura attended Alamo Heights High School Class of 1974 and went on to earn a BS from the University of Texas in Austin and a teaching certificate from Trinity. She enthusiastically taught kindergarten for 5 years. After the birth of Lorena she worked part-time with her husband in his dental practice. LauraÂ's extroversion was legendary. Everyone knew Laura for her lively conversation, quick wit, sense of humor and smile. Laura was always active in promoting competitive swimming and water polo, throughout LorenaÂ's grade school/high school days. The outpouring of encouragement, understanding, hope, love and fellowship from our friends, patients, and even strangers was truly a blessing that made enduring possible. Special thanks to the Alamo Heights swimming/water polo parents and kids 2005-2006 ~ Special friends Diane Solomon M.D., Cindi Geeslin, Alice Strunk and Hannah Veldt. The family greatly appreciates the total efforts of Lon Smith, M.D. and staff, the gentle and kind chemo. Nurses at CTRC, and Anita Patnaik, M.D. at START. John Clements, M.D. at STRIC and the compassionate Vista Care Hospice nurses and staff. Gracias Oralia y Blanca. Sincere appreciation to colleagues Leonardo Moya, D.D.S., Joyce Munoz, D.D.S. and Blanca, Brenda, Clarissa, Violet, Josie, R.D.H. Michelle, R.D.H. for helping care for our patients when Laura needed her husband the most. Laura will be missed by many but never forgotten. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 8115 Datapoint Drive, San Antonio, TX 78229.

Dear Family,
Laura and I were classmates and friends throughout the years. I have extremely fond memories of her and will treasure them dearly. I am so sorry for the loss of Laura. I did not even know that she was ill. Laura was a true friend and even though we did not keep up together after we married, I thought of her often. Please
know that my thoughts and prayers are with you.

Laura was a person in the family that I, regretfully, did not get to know as well as I would have liked to. But whenever I did see her and talk to her she was always very welcoming and very warm. I always remember the heartfelt laugh that she had. My prayers go out to you, Danny and Lorena. Please know you and the family are in my prayers.

My name is Rosa Elia Rosteet Cavazos. I am the daughter of the late Ruben Cavazos Sr. from Laredo. Although I did not know Laura Anne, I am certain she was a wonderful person who will be missed tremendously by those who loved her. My father often talked about Mr. Wheeler and his great family. May God bless you and give you strength during this difficult time.
Sincerely, Rosa Elia Cavazos

Wow, I have so many fond memories of you Aunt Laura. From your beautiful wedding I attended as a child, to the day you brought baby Lorena home (still remember those long fingers and toes - too cute), to the delicious flan you would make during the holidays, to the last time I kissed your cheek at your service on Oct. 31. Uncle Danny and Lorena, I am here for you. My prayers are with you, dear friends, and family. We have one more wonderful person watching over us. You will be so very missed.
