Arthur Clayton Meier, Colonel USA Army retired. Born in Marshall, MN on 11 August 1919, and Graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School, Council Bluffs, IA, Harvard University, Cambridge, MA, and Master Degree from George Washington University, Washington, DC. Served over 30 years in the Army, 3 ½ years during WWII with the 90th Infantry Division, landing on Utah Beach & ending in Czechoslovakia. Graduate of the Field Artillery School, the Army Command, General Staff School, and the Army War College. Tours of duty in Panama, Korea, Turkey, Hawaii, Germany and numerous stateside posts. Awards include the Silver Star, 2 Legions of Merit, 2 bronze Stars medals, Army Meritorious Service Medal, and Army Commendation medal. Following retirement from the Army in 1972, he became a citrus grower near Mission, TX for 20 years. During that period he was active in and served as an officer and member in Texas Citrus Mutual, Texas Valley Citrus Committee, Vice president of Edinburg Citrus Association and Chairman of the Texas Citrus Exchange. In 1984 he was King Citrus in Texas Fiesta. A Mason for over 50 years, he was past Master of Mission Lodge 1061, past District Deputy Grand Master for District 40A, past Patron of Mission Chapter 527 OES; a member of both York Rite and Scottish Rite bodies, he was a 33 degree Scottish Rite Mason, past Sovereign of South Texas Conclave of the Red Cross of Constantine, past President of Ft. Sam Houston Chapter 77 National Sojourners, and a member of such other Masonic Bodies as the Grotto. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Evelyn Messersmith Meier of 69 years. He is survived by his daughter, Gretchen E. Oostenink of Hamilton, NY, son Col. ret Arthur C. Meier II of Huntsville, AL, son Col. ret Frank L. Meier of Albuquerque, NM, 6 GRANDCHILDREN, and 7 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN. Rev. Lonnie Phillips officiating.In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to be made to the St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, Montana 59004 or Red Cloud Indian School, 100 Mission Drive, Pine Ridge, South Dakota 57770, or the charity of one's choice.

Arthur and Gertrude were good friends to my husband, Johnny, and me.
They will be missed by all who knew and called them friend.
