Kathyrn Ann Seeley Activist for cancer survivors' causes, paralegal manager Kathryn Ann Seeley, 55, author of the blog, "A Rare Cancer Journey," and a lifelong activist for political, environmental, and cancer survivors' causes, died in Pittsburgh, Pa., on March 23, 2016, after 15 years of fighting and living with three different cancers. Kathy will be remembered for her quick sense of humor, her fierce honesty, and her determination to survive against everyone else's odds. Kathy was born in Elmira, N.Y., on Aug. 24, 1960, but spent the majority of her childhood in Scottsdale, Ariz. She graduated from Arizona State University with a B.S. in sociology and a M.S. in justice studies. She worked as a paralegal in Phoenix and San Francisco before moving to New Jersey in 2000 to work at Lowenstein Sandler, P.C., eventually becoming their litigation paralegal manager and trial coordinator. Kathy had tremendous respect for the partners and staff at Lowenstein Sandler, and she was extremely proud of the work they accomplished together. Kathy's family would like to thank her team of compassionate nurses and aides from Allegheny Health Network's Home Hospice Care, Dr. Francis Forte of Englewood Hospital, and the doctors and nurses at Allegheny General Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital for their kindness and support. She is survived by her beloved parents, Laurel (Seger) Seeley of Scottsdale and Richard J. Seeley of Phoenix, Ariz.; her devoted and admiring sister, Lynda Christine Seeley of Scottsdale, and her many loving aunts, cousins, and friends. Memorial services will be held in Maplewood, N.J., and in San Francisco, Calif., during the upcoming months. Donations in memory of Kathy can be made to the Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Fund (accrf.org/take-action/donate), the Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Organization International (accoi.org/donate), and the Mya Linn Terry Foundation (themyalinterryfoundation.org).

Not a day goes by that I don’t look at the photo of the two of us next to my bed and have Kathy in my thoughts. What conversations we would have had about the political situation over the past 5 years! How I have missed sharing the momentous events in my life with my dear friend who truly was a part of my family, sharing holiday dinners and intimate conversations. Kathy was one of the brightest, funniest, bravest, and most generous people I ever had the good fortune to have in my life. She fought so courageously over those 15 years that I truly believed she would beat the cancer. Now she lives in my heart where I feel her love and in my head where I continue to hear her wise and witty voice. I miss her beyond belief. Elissa

Not a day goes by that I dont think of Kathy. Sometimes I chuckle, remembering her biting sense of humor - oh, would she be railing against the current state of our politics! Sometimes I shed tears for the loss of such a wonderful citizen of the world and a caring and devoted friend. Always loving you, my friend!

I know this is late, but I am just now discovering this sad news. I only knew her for a very brief time in 1997 for about 6-7 months until our paths diverged, but she had a profound impact on me. Her perspective on the world was so unique and her passion and spirit was so alive that I took a piece of her with me ever since then. May a wonderful soul rest in peace.

"One gift above all others God gives to us to treasure ~ one that knows no time, no place and one gold cannot measure. The precious, poignant, tender gift of Memory ~ that will keep our dear ones ever in our hearts although God gives them sleep. It brings back long remembered things ~ a song, a word, a smile and our world's a better place because we had them for awhile!"
Rest in Peace Kathy

There are no words that can adequately express my love and admiration for Kathy. What a special person she was! Kathy, my life was greatly enriched by our friendship, and the world is a much sadder and lonelier place without you. I will always love you.
