HOLYOKE John Midura, age 76, passed away on Sunday, July 12, 2015. John was born on April 9, 1939 in Ziempniow, Poland, the son of the late Stefan and Helena Midura (Capiga). After serving in the Polish Army, John immigrated to the United States in 1965 where he would reunite with his parents and siblings. On June 25, 1966 he married Christina Midura (Haczynski) with whom he enjoyed a loving marriage for over 49 years. John and Christina settled in Holyoke, Massachusetts and raised two children, Grace and Mark. John also enjoyed a very successful career as a machinist and took great satisfaction in his 33-year tenure with Westfield Gauge & Tool Company. Throughout his adult life, John's Polish roots remained an integral part of his identity. He proudly served as President of the Polish Youth Circle and the Polish National Alliance (PNA) Group 525. In recognition of his contributions to the PNA John was awarded the Bronze Legion of Honor Cross in 2014. Faith also played a central role in John's life. As a devoted a member of Mater Dolorosa Church, he volunteered his time for a number of fundraising efforts and also served as a lector. He is survived by his dedicated wife Christina; his daughter Grace Llodra and her husband John of Groton, MA; his son Mark Midura and his wife Laura (Steinbock) of Granby, CT; his sister Mary Socha and her husband Stanley of Newington, CT; his sister Christine Kos and her husband Joseph of Holyoke; his sister Halina Sulewski and her husband Leonard of Holyoke; his grandchildren Jacob Llodra, Luke Llodra, Benjamin Midura and Sophie Midura; and many cherished nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Stanley Midura and Edward Midura, who is survived by his wife Linda Midura of Marlton, NJ. The family would like to extend their appreciation to the staff of Baystate Medical Center and Renaissance Manor of Holyoke for providing John with such loving care in his final months. The Funeral will be held Thursday morning at 10:15 from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street, Holyoke followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:15 a.m. in Our Lady of the Cross Church. Burial will follow in Mater Dolorosa Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling hours will be held Wednesday, July 15th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the The Polish Cultural Center of Discovery and & Learning, 33 South Street, Chicopee, MA 01013 or The American Heart Association at www.heart.org.
