Rose Walters-Pearse Obituary

Dec. 6, 1919 - April 11, 2016

Rose Louise Walters-Pearse (nee Holdener) of Vacaville, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on the evening of Monday, April 11. Rose, who was a resident at Cornerstone Assisted Living, succumbed naturally after a short battle due to a sudden health condition. She was 96.

Rose is survived by her children, Kathleen Ford of Santa Rosa, Michael Walters of Vacaville, Timothy Walters of Suisun; daughter-in-law, Sharon Walters (Joseph) of Vacaville, and stepson, Thomas Pearse (Justine) of Winters; her grandchildren, Timothy Walters of Dixon, Ashley Edwards of Vacaville, Nicolas Walters of Winters; step-grandchildren, Carolyn Heines (Rick) of Winters, Tom (Adrienne) Pearse of Pinole, Scott Pearse of Winters, Steve (Melissa) Pearse of Clovis, Joseph Pearse of Alameda; as well as 11 great-grandchildren.

Rose was born Dec. 6, 1919 in Elmira, CA to Wendolin and Katherine Holdener. She was the youngest of nine children. She attended and graduated from Vacaville Union High School in 1937. She graduated high school as the Class of 1937's Senior Class President. In her early adult life, she worked as a waitress at The Vaca Valley Creamery. It was there that she met the love of her life, Delores Bernard Walters (Snooky). They married in 1941 and had five children, Patricia, Joseph, Kathleen, Michael, and Timothy. Rose worked more than two decades as a Nutrition Specialist for the Vacaville Unified School District. Upon her retirement from the school district, she was awarded for not missing a single day of work during her employment. After a long cancer battle, Rose lost her husband, Delores (Snooky), and remained a widow for many years. Much later in life, she married Charles Pearse of Winters. After Charles' passing Rose moved back to Vacaville to be near family.

In addition to her career, Rose spent many years playing fast pitch softball. She remained on a softball team until well in to her 50's. She also enjoyed camping, fishing, and spending time outdoors with family and friends alike. She continued participating in the family's annual camping trip to Hat Creek, in the Lassen National Forest until her early 90's. She also was an avid sports fan. She enjoyed watching nearly every sport, although her love of baseball was most notable.

Rose was preceded in death by her first husband, Delores (Snooky) Walters, and her second husband, Charles Pearse; two children, Patricia (Patsy), and Joseph; both parents, Wendolin and Katherine; seven siblings, Wendolin Jr., Frank, Antone, Joseph, Herman, Katherine, and Anna; in addition to many other family members and friends.

I just learned of Rose's passing. Rose and my parents, Tony and Barbara, shared a table at Cornerstone since Cornerstone opened. I am so sorry for your loss. I will miss playing bingo with her when I visit my parents. I have such fond memories of laughing with her around the dinner table at Cornerstone. Please accept my condolences.
