Patrick "Ed" Sears

HOLYOKE: Patrick E. "Ed" Sears, 87, of Holyoke, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2016. He was born in Holyoke, February 15, 1929, son of the late Michael and Ellen (Tighe) Sears. Ed was a graduate of the former Holy Rosary High School, and was a member of the Rosarians Glee Club. Ed worked for forty years at the Springfield Photo Mount Company and retired from the Holyoke Soldiers Home in 1992. Ed was a life member of Holyoke Elks #902. A communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church, he was one of the originals to lead the congregation in hymns. Ed is survived by his wife of 62 years, Constance "Connie" (Cavanaugh) Sears, his daughter and her husband, Mary and David Morris of Holyoke; his son Michael of Boston; his three grandchildren, Aaron Morris and his wife Stephanie of Holyoke, Sheila Gaffey and her husband Ryan of Shrewsbury, and Scott Matejek-Morris and his husband James of Cambridge; five great-grandchildren, Natalie and Keira Morris, and Norah, Caleigh, and Andrew Gaffey; his brothers and sisters-in-law; James Sears of Holyoke, Michael and Mary Sears of Alexandria, VA, and Bernadette Cavanaugh of Holyoke, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Ed was predeceased by a brother, John F. Sears. The Funeral will be held Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton Street followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Sacrament Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Jerome Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Tuesday, May 3rd from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of the Holyoke Health Care Center for the loving care shown to Ed during his stay there and for making his time there a comfort to his family.
