Garland Dexter Evans, Sr., 88, of Fayetteville, went home to be with the Lord July 3, 2016. Born March 28, 1928, to Henry and Verlie Evans in Scranton SC, he served 20 years in the US Army and was a Korean War Veteran. He also retired from the V.A. Hospital working as a civil service employee. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who spent much of his time in the woods or on the river doing what he loved most. Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Billie Jeanettte of 68 years; five sons; Garland Jr. and wife Evelyn, James and wife Tommie, Tim and Anthony Evans, Chris and wife Angie; one daughter, Debbie Livingston; six grandchildren, Lisa Stanton, Zach and Caleb Evans, Elizabeth Santos and Joshua and Jessica Evans; four great grandchildren, Dalton Stanton, Nola and Alex Santos and Noah Evans; remaining nephews and nieces; the Driggers family of Walterboro, SC. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm, Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Faymont Baptist Church. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Faymont Baptist Church Building Fund, 3663 Cumberland Road, Fayetteville 28306.

Mr. Evans one of the greatest men ever lived will be sadly missed and never forgotten.First met Mr. Evans when I was a little girl remember the summers I spent with him in Tennessee at my dad's house Wilford Tipton,I rember a bIke Mr. Evans me a memory I will never forget as a small child,a very kind man with the kindest face,the memories of him sitting around on our back porch,eating at the dinner table memories I hold dear to my heart and will never forget,they don't make men like Mr. Evans anymore,with up most respect to his wife and family,I will never forget him,so sorry for your loss!
