Betty F. Russo

Betty F. Russo, 94, a lifelong Wilmingtonian, passed away on August 15, 2016 at Seasons Hospice at Christiana Hospital. She was a proud graduate of Wilmington High School, Class of 1940. Betty worked in the late 1940's as an Executive Secretary for the DuPont Company and retired from Russo Brother's Plumbing & Heating Inc. as Secretary and Treasurer in 1984. She loved spending time at the beach, especially in Naples, FL where she spent many winters. Aqua aerobics and group fitness classes at the JCC were a treasured past time, as was her time spent bowling as a member of the Thursday Morning Cocktail League at Holiday Lanes, and as an active charter member of the River Road Swim Club. Betty is predeceased by her husband, Alfred D. Russo and her daughter-in-law, Nancy Jean Murphy (Robert). She is survived by her 6 children, Alfred D., Jr. (Faith Wright) of Greensboro, NC, Paul M. (Debbie) of Naples, FL, Robert J, of West Wildwood, NJ, Steven J. (Kathleen) of Wilmington, Bettina R. Thornes (John) of Wilmington and Michael J. (Joy) also of Wilmington. Betty is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and by her siblings, Marie Fortunato (Augie), Thomas Fidance (Marie) and Dr. Ernest Fidance (Mary Jo) all of Wilmington. The family would like to extend their appreciation of the care and companionship from the entire staff at Rockland Place, and especially her caregivers Tiara Flonnory and Lauren Heintzleman. Her smile and gifts of bringing happiness to others will be missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 11:30AM at St. Helena's Church, 602 Philadelphia Pike, Wilmington. Friends may call from 10:15:00-11:30AM on Tuesday at St. Helena's Church. Burial will be at the All Saints Cemetery, Wilmington. In lieu of flowers a donation can be made in Betty's memory to the Little Sisters of the Poor Delaware or the National Audubon Society.
