Alice Salazar Balderrama

Alice Salazar Balderrama, our beloved Mom, Mommy, and Mawie returned to her heavenly home on August 31, 2016 after a valiant battle with a long illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God supported her throughout her struggle and ultimately gave her eternal rest and peace. Alice was born on November 24, 1929 to the late Julio and Cecilia (Alanis) Salazar. Throughout her lifetime, she was immersed in caring for her children along with her nieces and nephews, parents, and many of her grandchildren. She was a lifetime member of the PTA, a long-term member of the Texas High School Coaches Wives Association, and an active member at St. Paul's Catholic Church for over 30 years. Alice was also a proud graduate of Sidney Lanier High School (Class of 1948). Alice was blessed with a large and loving family. She married the love of her life – Armando R. Balderrama on September 5, 1948. She raised her six children with a loving and caring heart. All of her loved ones will dearly miss her. Her favorite saying to us was "love you more"! The truth is we "have loved her most" and we will continue to do so forever and always! Alice is survived by all six of her children, Carmen (Tony), Ann, Armando (Jill), Terri (Ron), Cecilia (Gregg), and Adam (Cindi) along with her grandchildren Denise, Jennifer, Catherine, Julie, Michael, Elizabeth, Alicia, Caitlin, Jake, Shane, and Kylie and her 14 great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews. Alice is preceded in death: by her beloved husband Armando, her sisters - Maria de Jesus Estrello Gonzalez and Margaret Cardenas, her son in-law Jack Rangel, and her parents. The family would like to thank the caring staff at Coronado and Sorrento Skilled Care Facilities for the kindness they showed our mother. The family would also like to thank Heart to Heart Hospice for the amazing gift of caring and support provided to our Mom and to our family throughout this most difficult time. Most especially, the family would like to thank her personal caregivers who were absolute angels to her throughout the last 10 years. They are Sandra Perez, Luz Gomez, Vivian Phan, Caitlin Hannah and Catherine Orosco. God greatly bless each of you for your outstanding care and the love and kindness you showed our beloved Mommy! The family will receive friends at Porter Loring North on Sunday, September 11, from 3:00-5:00 P.M. ROSARY SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2016 5:00 P.M. PORTER LORING NORTH CHAPEL MASS MONDAY, SEPEMBER 12, 2016 12:00 P.M. ST. PAUL'S CATHOLIC CHURCH 350 SUTTON DRIVE Mariachis will perform from 11:15am - 11:45am. Interment will follow at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery.
