Colin Bryan Obituary

Published by Chandler Funeral Homes & Crematory - Wilmington on Aug. 29, 2016.
Colin Jonathan Bryan was born in Doylestown, PA on July 20, 1994. From the get go, he was our miracle child. He led an active life, serving in BSA Troop 239, Delmarva Council, as well as learning martial arts at New Castle Karate Plus. In 2014, Colin graduated from Tall Oaks Classical School where he sang in the school choir and was a member of the debate team. Not long after graduating, he attended Delaware Tech and became a member of the Game Club at Stanton Campus. In addition, over the past several months, he became a farrier's apprentice, learning horseshoeing and metal working. Colin was a gentle witness for Christ amongst his wide range of friends. In his short time, he gave to all of us a legacy that we will cherish forever. He leaves behind many who will sorely miss him, but no matter what, Colin will live on through his friends and family. You are forever bro! Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Friday September 9, 2016 at Crossroads Presbyterian Church, 627 Vance Neck Road, Middletown, DE. Friends and family may visit from 10 am to 12 noon at the church.

When a loss so deep and as sad as this happens, there are no answers. However there are countless reasons why we will remember Colin including as Brandon's debate partner where I had the opportunity to witness their eloquent defense. We can't begin to comprehend the depth of your loss and can only pray that you feel the loving arms of our savior carrying you through the darkness and giving you strength to endure! God bless and comfort you all!

Dear Frank, Rhoda, Carole and Kyle

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Ken and I were on vacation and did not learn of Colin's passing and services in order to attend.

We will miss seeing him at church. As I read the many wonderful memories his friends, teachers and classmates wrote on this website, I realized I missed getting to know a very special young man on a deeper level.

May God grant you His comfort, strength and Peace.

We knew Colin through our home fellowship and church. I was always so impressed with his Christian witness and his Bible knowledge. We also knew Kyle and Frank thru this group. Collin will be very much missed by us all. They always actively participated in discussions.

I knew Colin mainly from martial arts, where he was a great person already. Most of our interaction came through this relationship. But even our occasional chats online always made me feel a little more upbeat, a little more curious about how and why things are the way they are, and just more positive overall. I may have not known you very closely, but I still feel an ache for your loss. You will be missed.

Colin, you shared yourself with me so generously. Your honesty and truthfulness could always be counted on. I loved our discussions and your willingness to always trust and see the good in others. Your intelligent questions and equally intelligent answers in our conversations placed you high in my memories of students. You are a gentleman and a very gentle man, always respectful of others and their feelings.

I am so sorry and shocked to learn of Colin's passing. He was a very smart, polite and caring young man. I enjoyed the many conversations I had with him while watching the probationary black-belts train for their test. My heart and prayers go out to his family. I know he will be terribly missed. God speed, Colin, may you rest in peace.

He was such a nice person with a whole life ahead of him. I regret not seeing him in his last hours and my condolences to him, his family and friends including myself. The greatest memories I've had with him were when we would hang out and play magic, talked about music, and talked about the meaning of life at times. Though the best memory that I as well as my girlfriend have had with him was when we went to New York and bought him a bag of m&ms because he didn't get to come along. We gave him the bag shortly after and he was so happy, it's a shame he had to go at the young age of twenty two. We'll miss you Colin, rest in peace my friend.

You are such an amazing person. Who else would I thank for making me feel at home at Del Tech! Thank you so much for everything. Thank you for introducing me to friends, teaching me Magic the Gathering, having those long debates and conversations about life. Words cannot describe how much we'll all miss you. It seems so unreal. I cannot believe that you're gone, but please rest easy my sweet friend.

I don't even know where to start. He was closer than a brother, despite me living in San Antonio Texas. We spoke about everything. He talked me out of suicide half a dozen times! There is only one other person closer to me than him, my brother. I am so sorry. I don't understand what God's plan is, I just know it will glorify him in the long run. I won't waste my life. Not anymore, Like he challenged me constantly. I know he was writing a book, I would be honored to have what he had written and planned for it so I could finish it in his honor. It is the only thing I can think of to carry on his legacy. (I do have a book I am working on publishing). Again... I offer my condolences.

I had the wonderful privilege of working with Colin in the NILD Discovery Program at Tall Oaks Classical School in the 2013/2014 school year. Because of the one on one setting, I was able to get to know Colin's precious mind and heart very well. I often commented to him that I felt he was enriching my life more than I was enriching his. His wonderful mind was matched by his tender, loving spirit. He always expressed care over the things that weighed upon my heart. I truly don't believe I have ever known a person as polite, considerate, respectful (and the list could go on) as Colin. Even after he graduated, he came back to visit, bringing much joy to my heart. I weep as I write this, knowing that Colin's precious presence has been taken from all of us who loved him so deeply, but I eagerly look forward to sharing the delights of eternity with him when we are reunited. Rhoda, Frank, Kyle and Carole, my heart, filled with love and prayers, will remain with you for the rest of my days.

I am so grateful that God brought Colin to Tall Oaks and into our lives here, and through him, the rest of his family. Our hearts are heavy with his loss and our prayers are continually going up for the comfort of those he leaves behind. The thing I admired most about Colin was his genuine nature. There was no guile in him; he presented himself as he was without pretending to be something else. He was so very kind, possessing an ability to empathize with others to a depth that was surprising in someone so young. His quick mind was deeply interested in many things, and he would eagerly talk about them to anyone with the wisdom to listen. "Whoa! Colin, you lost me there. What are you talking about now?" I would sometimes have to say so I could catch up with his rapid-fire thoughts. Colin will be greatly missed. All of us who knew him have been blessed by his life and mourn his passing. May the God of peace bring the comfort of Christ's victory over death to his family and friends. Because of Him, we can mourn without despair.

My prayers are with Colin's dear family. I never met a young man with more perseverance or with a kinder, gentler spirit than Colin. Although I did not have the privilege to teach him, we often chatted in the halls of Tall Oaks. He always went out of his way to hold a door, truly care about how my day was going, or share a glimpse of his life with me. He brought joy to my days. Colin had attributes that I greatly admired, and his earthly passing is a great loss. I pray for comfort for the family in knowing he is in the perfect presence of the Almighty.

My deepest condolences to the Bryan family and their friends. I will always remember Colin as a true gentleman. He was eager to chat about science, and we always parted ways with him wishing me a good day. He enriched the lives of his fellow students; he will be missed.
