Edith Colvard Obituary

Published by Porter Loring Mortuary McCullough on Sep. 16, 2016.
Edith Walli Colvard died quietly at age 92, Friday, September 16, 2016. She was born on February 19, 1924 to the late Fredreich and Walli Gramlich in Mannheim, Germany. Her parents, husband of 63 years James and daughter, Christine precede her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth and husband, Medicus Rentz; son, Michael and wife, Patty; and daughter, Linda and husband, Henry Gonzales. Edith was a loving wife and mother. Grandmother to Chris Wade Labanowski, Perry Lyons, Caitlyn Colvard, Hayley Colvard and Mac Colvard. She was blessed with great grandchildren Harper, Cole, Lucero, Jack and Liza. Born in an urban and cultured life style that took a horrible turn into World War. She married Ken an American GI and immigrated to the United States as a war bride. She lived 20 years as a military wife maintaining home and family while Ken served in Korea and Viet Nam. She loved the military tours to Germany where she introduced the family to potato balls, gummi bears, wiener schnitzel and Opa and Oma. She never allowed an uncombed head, wrinkled shirt or dirty dish. She loved her grandchildren and was thrilled by recent great grandchildren looking forward to weekly updates and new pictures. She will long be missed and never forgotten. SERVICE MONDAY SEPTEMBER 26, 2016 9:30 A.M. PORTER LORING CHAPEL Interment in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery

I knew Edith while she resided at Horizon Bay, where I am employed. I loved her sense of humor, and huge smile. I have missed her and thought of her often. My thoughts and prayers are with the family..
Sincerely, Lou Ella Taylor

My mother was, I think, a remarkable woman and mother. She was strong willed, controlling, wanted things done NOW, a perfectionist of herself and others and had no qualms about speaking her mind. She was also very loving and giving of herself. These last couple of years has been very special for me with my mom. I saw her impatience with life and the need to get things done that had always been a part of her softened. She was gracious with those around her and more so with herself. She never failed to tell me how much she loved me; often 5 or 6 times as we closed the door to leave her room. She taught me acceptance of thing that can't be changed and gave me the love of a wonderful mother. She will be in my thoughts always and I will smile. I love you, Mom. Say hi to Dad for me.
