Dr. Sherif Daoud

Dr. Sherif Daoud, 61 of Hamden passed away peacefully after a brief illness at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford with his loving family by his side. Dr. Daoud was born in Alexandria, Egypt on February 21, 1955, a son of Sophie Awad Daoud of Alexandria and the late George Daoud. He came to the U.S. in 1985 and lived in Woodbridge for several years before moving to Hamden fifteen years ago. He received his MD from the Faculty of Medicine at Alexandria University, was U.S. board certified in internal medicine, and worked predominately in the emergency room at Midstate Medical Center in Meriden. Dr. Daoud was not your typical doctor. He had the knack of having the healing power to make people laugh, and he was deeply loved by everyone who worked with him. Within minutes of meeting him, whether at the hospital, or in his personal life, you were instantly surrounded by the warmest, most fun-loving, and lighthearted man you could ever come to know. He loved being active; in his free time, he would play tennis, or enjoy a long walk on the West Haven Boardwalk. He was an MD in the U.S. for over thirty years, and for the first time in his life, he was on the other side as a patient. In his last days, he was cognitively impaired, and lost most of his memory, but miraculously, he still remembered familiar music that he could hum, and sometimes even sing to. Dr. Daoud is also survived by his children, Nina Daoud of Milford, Kristopher Daoud of Woodbridge, and Kareem Daoud of Naugatuck, two sisters, Samia Daoud and Soheir Lakah, both of Alexandria, and his former wife, Nancy Habashi Daoud of Woodbridge. A funeral service will take place at the Virgin Mary & Archangel Michael Coptic Orthodox Church, 87 Benham St., Hamden on Monday at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow in Centerville Cemetery, Hamden.
