JUDY GAGE Obituary

Published by A. Ripepi & Sons Funeral Homes - Middleburg Heights on Nov. 15, 2016.
GAGE JUDY GAGE (nee Broquet), age 61. Devoted wife of Thomas A. for 32 years; beloved mother of Jason, Nathan (fiancée - Jessica), Tim, and Brian; cherished grandmother of Breanna, Maylis, Nathan, Jr., and Tristan; dear sister of Tharen Houck, and Carol Thompson; caring daughter of the late Charles and Betty Broquet; also survived by 3 nieces, 5 nephews, 4 great-nieces, and 1 great-nephew, and many dear friends. Judy was born in Detroit, Michigan, and moved to Berea, Ohio in March of 1967. Since then, Judy was the glue that kept everyone in touch, as well as organizing the family reunions. She graduated Berea High School in 1973. It was there, where she became the first female swimmer on the boys swim-team and also met Tom. They would rekindle their love for each other, and marry in 1984. She was the perfect partner for such a quiet man, always knowing just the way to break the silence. Judy was the caregiver of the home, with an open door to family and friends, and being a 2nd mom to everyone her boys brought home. Early in her life, she enjoyed karate and riding motorcycles. With her boys, she played and coached soccer, took care of Petey, and enjoyed traveling with Tom, and meeting him for their cross-country drive home. Judy earned her Associates Degree from Tri-C and became a Court Reporter for the U.S. District Courts here in Cleveland. An amazing, humble woman, she was the fastest court reporter in Ohio for two years in-a-row, and mastered Closed-Caption. From her home, she typed Closed-Caption for the major sports, and the University of Illinois and Notre Dame Football team. Captioning NBA TV, Golf, and MLB, including the scoreboard for the Miami Marlins! She was especially proud of her captioning the Mass and Papal Address when the Pope came to visit New York City. She was awesome at everything she did! She never wanted the attention on her, but always making sure her boys were taken care of and behaved. Please remember her smile, hard work and dedication as we celebrate the life and love of Judy. A Celebration of Life will be 4:00 p.m., Saturday, December 10, 2016, at the funeral home. The family will receive friends SATURDAY 2-4 P.M. at the A. RIPEPI AND SONS FUNERAL HOME, 18149 BAGLEY RD., MIDDLEBURG HTS. (WEST OF I-71).

I am so sorry to here this sad news. I only knew Judy for a few years thru Brooklyn Hockey when my son Mike played with Brian and when we were both on the board. She was a wonderful woman. I am sorry I won't be able to be at the celebration of life as I will be at my Fathers remembrance program at the cemetery, where we will have a mass and concert and light a lantern and let it float into the sky. My prayers are with you Tom as I know what it is like to lose your partner in life. I lost Chris 4 years ago. To the boys know that your mom will always be watching over you as you live your lives and know that your will always make her proud. Again so sorry for your loss.

In addition to being an excellent court reporter, Judy was also an outstanding broadcast captioner. Her quality was stellar. She worked with us as an independent contractor at the National Captioning Institute for about 18 months captioning a variety of programs, but mostly sports. She was always a pleasure to work with -- a consummate professional. I remember when she captioned the Papal visit. She was ecstatic, and we were so happy to have her outstanding captions on such a high profile event. Judy was interviewed by the Journal of Court Reporting about captioning the Papal visit. She recently tested to caption ESPN for us, and of course, had stellar scores. She had just emailed me on November 14 that she was looking forward to captioning ESPN for us.

We never met, but I could feel her warmth through our emails and phone calls. My heartfelt condolences to all of Judy's family and friends. She was a special lady and will be missed.

Judy, I never met you personally, but "knew" you for years through our work. I wanted to just let all know what a giving person you were, which I'm sure those who knew you personally already know all to well. You helped me so much when I wanted to branch out and start on my own. You were ALWAYS willing to give, always there to lend a hand and free advie. We only shared emails and messages through Facebook, but I wanted to let others know you affected me deeply with your kindness and willingness to always help others. I will miss you, dear lady. Rest In Peace.

I am very saddened to hear about the loss of your wife, mom, sister, grandmother, friend and my colleague. I met Judy in court reporting school at the Academy where she was a born natural for our profession, an inspiration to all, not only an amazing talent but a beautiful person as well. After 40 years in our profession we did not have the opportunity to work together however would see each other at various gatherings and stayed in touch by social media. We shared a love for the Cleveland Indians, Ohio State and other local sports teams. Living seasonal in Arizona I know she spent time here and thoroughly enjoyed it. She lived a good life. I'm very sorry for your loss, our loss, society's loss and will continue to pray for you and your family. God Bless.

Carol -
I was so saddened and shocked to hear about Judy's passing away - and am having trouble believing that she has left us.

Your mother, Betty Stevens and Neil and I became great friends, traveling to England and Spain together. Gradually we got to know her three daughters by listening to your mom talk about each of you and your achievements.

I taught pre-school and Judy had Tim enrolled in our class so I got to know her as a parent and we had Tom come into our class one day and talk to us about fire safety - the children throughly enjoyed listening to him.

These are only a few memories - there are many more.

My thoughts and prayers are with all of your family -

Take care-

We will surely miss Judy at work. She was a great writer and could take any technical and difficult cases that came her way. She was also always willing to help others at the office and courthouse.

Judy was a rock to all who had the pleasure of meeting her. She was a true champion of the profession, a workhorse - never stopping, always improving her skills, and always lending a helping hand to every court reporter, captioner, student she could. I already miss our daily talks and story sharing. My life is better because of Judy.
Tom, Jason, Nate, Timmy, and Bryan, take care of each other, know that we are all here for you, and continue to make Judy (mom) smile! She loves you all so much!!

Tom and family -- I am truly sorry and saddened by your sudden and overwhelming loss. I am Judy's massage therapist. She came in regularly for her massages and, unlike most people getting treatments, she always talked through the first half of her session. I enjoyed her talking, however, because she spoke lovingly and with such pride about you and the boys. She often shared pictures from your road trips and the new home. And the woman knew her sports, too! She was more than a client she became a friend and I will forever miss her. My heart aches for all of you but I will do my best to smile every time I think of her.

I am so shocked and saddened to hear this news. I met Judy in junior high at Roehm, and she was always smart and fun. After I graduated and moved away, I saw her once at the county fair when I was visiting my folks, and we chatted briefly. Years later we reconnected on Facebook. I remember her thoughtfulness in coming to the funeral home when my mom died. My sincere sympathy and condolences to all her family and friends.

My deepest sympathies to Judy's family. So rightly you called her the "glue" that kept everything together.

I came to know Judy during her many visits to her mother (Mrs. Broestl) while working at the Renaissance. She was a loving and caring daughter and I know she is in her mother's loving arms once again at peace.

Just remember....you will see her smiling face again.

Warm regards,
Tammy Seals
