Doris Smith Obituary

Published by R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A. - Rising Sun on Nov. 17, 2016.
Doris "Grammie D" Cobb Smith died peacefully at home on November 17, 2016 in Rising Sun, MD at the age of 77. Born on June 6, 1939 in Natick, MA, she was the daughter of the late George and Beryl Cobb. Doris graduated in 1958 from King Philip Regional High School. She then went to work at AT&T Telephone Company before continuing on as a Tupperware dealer for 44 years, and then working at Stetson University. Doris was skilled in knitting and often made Christmas stockings. She was a passionate individual who loved her New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. She was consumed in her love for Jesus Christ. Doris was an active and dedicated member of the Rising Sun Church of the Nazarene and often volunteered at Rising Sun Elementary School. Doris is survived by her two sons: Raymond Watters of Rising Sun, MD and Kenneth Watters and his wife, Casey, of Rising Sun, MD; brother, Donald Cobb and his wife, Eleanor, of Plainville, MA; sister, Barbara Cobb Briggs and her husband, Carlton, of Mansfield, MA; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren; best friend, Lucille Jadwin of Wilmington, DE; many cousins, nieces, nephews and a great deal of church family and friends. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her son, Wayne "Butchie" Watters Jr. and her brother, George "Jack" Cobb. The family would like to thank Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care for their care of our beloved Grammie D. Services honoring Doris's life will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 11am at the Rising Sun Church of the Nazarene, 2626 Jacob Tome Memorial Highway, Colora, MD, 21917, with a visitation beginning at 10am. Pastor Dana Howard will officiate the ceremony; all are welcomed to attend to celebrate Grammie D's life. Burial will follow at West Nottingham Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to "Church of the Nazarene – Caravan Program" and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., PO Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.

Our Family all loved Grammy D. She was always so kind and nice to our 3 grandaughters. They all had her as a teacher at Caravan. She was so thoughtful and giving. Always had an encouraging word to say! She will be greatly missed!

MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS ARE WITH RAY AND KEN AND ALL OF DORIS'S FAMILY. DORIS IS NOW WITH HER SAVIOUR, JESUS CHRIST AND THOSE SHE LOVED WHO HAVE PASSED ON BEFORE HER.
I WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES WE HAD WHEN DORIS AND MY BROTHER, LEROY "BUD" SMITH WOULD VISIT US IN MAINE.

What can I say???? I have certainly lost one of my best friends, my traveling companion, my shopping companion, my Bluegrass buddy, my Southern Gospel companion to Calvary church in Lititz, PA. We did so much together and actually had a wonderful relationship. She always said, "we augured like cats and dogs but when it was over, it was over." We never held a grudge. I loved this special Christ-like lady who knew where she was going when she passed over. Thank you God for putting her in my life 10 years ago because we had a lot of beautiful memories. I love her grandchildren and she loved mine. We shared them together. Only yesterday I had a beautiful story to tell her about one of mine, then realized I no longer have anyone to brag too. Love you Doris and know I will miss you always. I also want to thank Ray, Ken, Casey, Jenn, Mason and Kendra for sharing Doris with me and including me in their family ventures. It's been a great ride.

My condolences to the family. May you feel God's strength and comfort. Grammie D touched my life and my family lives. She was always an encourager to everyone. Grammie D would come to upward soccer and root for everyone. We all have the memories of her love and kindness. I loved to hear her passion for Christ at church when she gave her testimony. She is an inspiration to speak boldly for Christ. A great legacy to leave behind. Thank you Lord for allowing Grammie D's path to cross with mine. A blessing I will treasure.

To all the family,
My deepest sympathy to all of you. My heart aches for all of you. Rising Sun will never be the same without her in it. I have so enjoyed Grammie D and all of her posts, her smile and laugh were just infectious. I wish I could be with you Monday to celebrate Doris's life but my work schedule wont permit it. All of you are in my thoughts and prayer. I pray you find comfort knowing she is with Butchie and that they are both in the arms of her loving Lord. God Bless
