Joseph Michael Gudlin Jr.

Joseph Michael Gudlin Jr., age 87, passed away Wednesday January 18, 2017 surrounded by family. He was the beloved husband of the late Adelaide (Novak), loving father of Barbara (Christopher) Donovan, and cherished grandfather of Angel (Todd) Martin, Aaron, C. Michael and Joseph. His darling great grandchildren Kaya, Ari, Vinny and Julia, called him "Greatpa". His sister Linda (Simpson) Garens and brother Charlie Simpson. He was preceded in death by his sister Joan Blass; brother Paul Simpson and his parents.

Born in 1929, he served in the U.S. Air Force during WWII and was a member of the American Legion Jay Wilson Post 112. He was a lifetime honorary member of the Knights of Columbus Don Bosco Council 4801. He was a charter member and very active at St. Bede the Venerable Church, where he served on the parish council and as an usher for 25 years.

Mr. Gudlin was employed by Caterpillar Inc., where he held various positions from 1968 until his retirement in 1992.

Funeral mass will be held 11 am Monday January 23, 2017 at St. Bede the Venerable Church, 9114 Lakeshore Blvd., Mentor, OH 44060. Please meet at church.

Family will receive friends from 3:30-4:30 pm Sunday at Brunner Sanden Deitrick Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 8466 Mentor Ave., Mentor, OH 44060.

He will be laid to rest, in peace, next to his beloved wife of 52 years in Mentor Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Mr. Gudlin's memory to the St. Bede Church - Building Fund.
