Donald M. McGovern, "The Gov", age 86, passed away January 24, 2017. Beloved husband of 53 years to Judith A. McGovern; loving father of Jim (Laurie) and John (Lisa); cherished grandfather of Michael, Kevin, Frankie and Arthur; dear brother of the late Earl A. McGovern and brother-in-law of Lila McGovern. Don was considered by most as the life of the party and he loved having fun. He spent a lot of time playing softball and racquetball and was a passionate Cleveland sports fan. Don enjoyed building and maintaining connections with friends and those in the neighborhood where he managed his business. He kept in touch with Parma Schaaf High School 49ers until the end. His top priority was family, including enriching their lives through sports, travel and setting a good example of what it means to be a true gentleman. He was always ready to strike up conversations with strangers and help out those in need. He strived to do the right thing regardless of whether or not someone was watching. He proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War and was a humble recipient of a Bronze Star. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Special Olympics, Cleveland Chapter, 1958 Kresge Dr., Amherst, OH 44001. A Celebration of Don's life will be announced by the family at a later date. Cremation by Busch Crematory (440) 842-7800 www.buschcares.com

I am going to miss Don immensely during the next family get together.
Don is not gone however, as I see his fun loving spirit living on in his family today.
Judy, our family wishes you the best during this time of transitions.

John, Jim, and Mrs. McGovern- I am so sorry to hear of your father/husband's passing. I have great memories of your Dad taking us tubing on Lake Erie and always having a kind word whenever I saw him back in our Halcyon Drive days. He will be missed.

To the McGovern Family,

My deepest condolences for your loss of a great man.

I got to know Don during the late 1970s. Although we did not agree on everything we had many similarities. He is responsible for my becoming a Republican. It took me a few years, but he eventually won me over.

Likewise, I can attest that everything describing him in his obituary is spot on, he will be missed. Since I now reside in Tucson, Az., I will not be able to attend any services. God Bless You All.
