To The McManama Family
I offer the most sincere condolences on your loss.
I join you in celebration of a man who lead a quite remarkable life as witnessed by those comments here ,but more clearly by the legacy left in family that he raised.
"Ever to Excel" the Boston College motto defines precisely what your father was all about.

To the McManama Family,
We just found out about Dr. Johns passing and wish to send our condolences. We had so many wonderful memories of Humarock and the weekend get togethers with Papas and Grandmas house. Dr. John was a frequent visitor and we loved getting together with the McManama family. We never tired of hearing his stories about BC athletics and the rivalry with Syracuse where Tony (my husband)went. Our deepest sympathy to the McManama family. Dr. John was an incredible man and will be truly missed.

I will always cherish and remember seeing everyone in the summers at Humarock Beach. Dr. John was always so nice to my family. I saw him on the field when BC came to play Syracuse in the Dome and he had me with him on the BC sideline. It was a genuine thrill. Love from your family in Vermont.

To the children of Dr. John..I send condolences to all of you from the Pierce family. Our Mom, Emily a/k/a 'Emmie' to you started working for the 'good dr.' at his office on Church st. He liked her so much he asked her to be a helper to your mother and Nanny to his children. I remember spending time at the house and enjoying the company of all of you playing games at the long picnic table in your kitchen. My mother loved your Mom and Dad and each of one you.
Please know my family sends sympathy

The best of men. My doctor until I married and moved away. Remember him so well and still in awe of his house visits. He was a great doctor. Helped me through one of the most difficult times of my life with kindness and understanding that was advanced for the times. Thank you. Sympathy and prayers for family and friends of this wonderful man and physician.

Dear Family,hrwn3
Your dad was the George and Eleanor Gorgone's family doctor from the 1950's and gave birth to at least my youngest sister. He continued to be my family doctor until 1971 when I moved from Waltham. He gave birth to my two children at St Elizabeth's hospital. When my dad passed away in 2001 he attended his funeral which was very thoughtful. That was the first time I saw him since 1971. I respected your father as a doctor and person.
When I had mono in 1968 just weeks before I got married he stopped unannounced at my house to see how I was doing. He never charged for this visit. Knowing that I was getting married he would not allow me to go back to work for 3 months. He also suggested (he did not demand) that I might consider not going back to the job I had at that time...that my new marriage should come first. I thought about his advice and took it...as it was good advice.
He is the best doctor I ever had.
Sincerely, Dianne

The world has lost forever a rare role-model for the capacity to live life with compassion, dignity and respect for others. As was once said in a eulogy for my father "he valued the human condition". The same describes his best friend John Carroll McManama MD. These 2 men, my father John J. Flynn llll, and Dr Mac .as we children called him, we're best friends since 1st grade. They were dedicated BC Eagles, they both met and married nurses - Maggie and my mother were dear friends until my mother's untimely death at the age of 38- Dr. Mac was a man of great character, integrity and compassionate empathy who routinely performed acts of service without compensation, reward or acclaim- nor did he seek or desire it.. His reward in this life was the joy he found in the love of his family and his beloved Boston College. It is with great sadness that so many, particularly his adoring family, endure the loss of his presence here on earth, but I for one take great comfort in the assurance that he once again will be with his beloved Maggie. My deepest sympathy to all of the McManama family. From all I have read, You are his greatest legacy. May God hold you close and comfort you throughout this journey.

So sorry for your loss. I am Joe and Ginny Riley's daughter and my mom and dad were friendly with your family from the time they were 5 years old. Dr. John and his brothers and sisters were much a part of my family as they grew up in the same neighborhood in Waltham. He will be sorely missed as a pillar of Waltham. He and my Dad took care of quite a few families in their day. You are all in our thoughts and prayers at this very sad time.

Dr. John delivered myself and my six younger sisters and brothers. I will always remember him coming to our house when any one of us were sick. Although stern, he was kind and so caring. When my dad had rheumatic fever, he came frequently to see how my Mom was holding up. I will never forget that. He convinced me to go to Nursing School and I did at St. Elizabeth's. Spent 25 years working at that hospital after my graduation and felt lucky to see him in the halls. He is a man I will always remember. I am so sorry for you loss but so happy you had him for such a long time..

My doctor from my toddler years, remember him coming to our home when I was ill, had a crush on him and cut pictures of mens neckties and gave them to him. He saw me thru childhood, teen years and into motherhood. He delivered my first two children when I lived in Brighton. If my babies were sick he would ask if I had a ride, if not he would stop by on his way home from the hospital. He was my idea of the perfect doctor, no one has measured up to him since he stopped practicing! I a, he cared for all of usm 72 now, my children 39,48, and 49. He cared fo all of us. Loved him and wish him eternal peace! Kathleen Connolly
