John notably helped develop a successful Credit Union Service Organizations (CUSOs), particularly the Credit Acquisition Resource Services (CARS) which partnered with many credit unions across Texas providing indirect lending services. This provide expanded products and services to the membership which created a lucrative profit center for the credit union. This helped and expanded membership, but also positively affected its bottom line. John retired from SACU May 2012 but continued to consult for an additional two years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Frances Mundy and Carl Leon Mundy, Sr. and his brother, Carl Leon Mundy, Jr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Martha B. John enjoyed spending his free time landscaping his home, ensuring his lawn and flowers were always perfectly manicured. He enjoyed the friendly chats with neighbors. As long time car enthusiast, he loved working on his cars and reading anything and everything car related. We will miss our "Juanito Lunes" and beloved "Papa John". He will remain in our hearts forever. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 21st, at Porter Loring Mortuary North. ROSARY TUESDAY, MARCH 21, 2017 7:00 P.M. I cannot believe it's been almost a year since my / our good friend and Martha's wonderful husband left us. He was one fine gentleman that was so well liked by all and I am sure deeply loved by Martha. We miss you John, but know you are now in good hands - safe at home in Heaven enjoying the presence of our Lord & Savior Jesus Christ - and there is NO doubt that John was a faithful Christian man who placed his faith in Christ.

I had the great pleasure of knowing Mr. Mundy from when I was an intern at SACU to several years later when I returned as a full time employee. Without fail, Mr. Mundy was always friendly, kind and positive. It was always a great day when I had the chance to run into him in the elevator or the hall. I was so saddened to hear of his passing, but truly appreciate the opportunity I had to know him. Thoughts and prayers and sincerest condolences to his friends and family.

It seems my previous message was too long and couldn't be printed. I'll keep it short: It was a joy being your neighbor John for such a short time. I will remember you for a lifetime. You will be truly missed. -Charles

John, how I will miss your calling me from across the street, "Hey Deb" in your Boston accent that always made me smile. You have always been there watching the girls and I for the last 25 years and have always given us advise and words of encouragement as only you could. You also kept me updated on everything; how I will miss our talks. You have left us all to soon. As my condolences and prayers are with your family, I know you are at peace now! I will miss you my dearest friend,

Mrs. Martha Mundy my friend and her family, please accept my deepest condolences. I'm proud to have had the opportunity to have worked and to have been able to call Mr. John Mundy my friend. Ditto, Mr. Sam Rocha, I agree with you whole hardheartedly but, i could never call him "Johnny Boy". He was always and will remain, respectfully Mr. Mundy to me. Rest in peace my friend and may the perpetual light always shine upon him.

John was not just a great neighbor and generous person, but an institution in the neighborhood. There was always a sense of the world was right as you walked by and John was out in his yard -- chatting, sharing insights and pearls -- we will miss him so. His love of animals was evident in his caring -- he was such a generous contributor in Jackson's campaign for El Rey Fido and while Brooksley looked forward to kisses for Nikkie -- she was crazy about John and vocalized it to the neighborhood. Our hearts are broken -- John made the world a better place. We will miss him so and are here for you.

Jill- I can not believe your Dad is gone. I can see him mowing the lawn and washing the cars like it was yesterday. So many wonderful memories of him over the years. Our last visit I will hold even closer to my heart now- I brought Raul to see the neighborhood and of course your Dad was in the yard. We stopped to chat and he invited us inside to enjoy a cold beer. It was so nice to laugh and get his approval on the man who would later become my husband. His laugh and smile were larger than life - I know he is at peace now in heaven. I also know the lawn will look so much better in heaven with John on the job now. You are in our thoughts and prayers along with all your family grieving the wonderful man he was. May God give you comfort and bless you all.

Martha
I was out of town and have learned of John's death. I am not sure heaven can handle Joe and John reunited. We were friends for so many years - starting with his days with Kendrick at Citicorp- and there are so many memories- so many roads that we rode together- we shared pains and joys and of course, our Irish roots.
I will miss him.

Mr. Mundy was a good man. Growing up next door, we would watch Mr. Mundy mow the lawn and wash his vehicles like clockwork. Always done, and always done with care and to perfection. He was a good neighbor and friend - I'll always remember his voice, his interest in my brother and I, and his care and love for my family.

Our condolences and prayers are with the family of John during this time of grief. Like so many others, I learned so much knowledge from John on how to establish and maintain a successful and profitable indirect lending program. Also, I greatly enjoyed his many Jim humorous real life banking experiences as told in a "Bostonian" accent.

Mr. Mundy left such an impression on me. In the 90's, I was an insecure salesman, but he had confidence in me and treated me like a member of the SACU family when I called on him. His sense of humor always put me at ease. As an actor and screenwriter, Mr. Mundy's storytelling and exuberant nature inspired many of my creative insights. Especially the story of the "3 8's." When I visited him many years later, he still had the 3 8 magnet set I had given him as thanks for many years of support and friendship. My best to his family. You have no idea how much he meant to me in those eight or so years I so happily worked with him.

Martha, John (Mr. Mundy) as I respectfully called him was one of a kind. When I first started at the credit union I would receive marketing pieces in the mail from parts of the country simply initialed JM and for the longest time I had no idea who was sending me these recommendations. It really touched me when I realized they were from him. He wanted me to be successful and that meant so much to me. He became a friend that really cared about me and my family. I'm going to remember fondly of how he would talk about you and the way he would say certain words with his accent. My prayers and thoughts are with you and the family during this difficult time.

Martha, we are next door neighbors now for over 30 years. We are deeply saddened and stunned to hear of John's passing. His daily yard watering routine always escalated into some really good and interesting conversations between us. I used to tease him telling him that my yard (which is bad) was making his yard look good. He got a kick out of that. He watched out for us as he did for all our neighbors. His passing has left a big, big hole in our community. God bless and keep you, John.

Martha, I will never forget my dog-walk chats with John. He was a caring person, kind to all, and he loved our neighborhood. So many people will miss him. Many dogs will miss walking up the driveway for a drink of fresh water that John refreshed every day. Neighbors like that are very rare. The entire neighbor hood is mourning, and we are all here for you.
