Mr. Robert James Smith

Robert James Smith, 85, of Westfield, New Jersey, passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2017. A Memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, 125 Elmer Street in Westfield, N.J., on Saturday April 8, 2017 at 2:00pm. He was born to the late James and Ruth Smith, September 28, 1931. Robert graduated from Bernards High School in 1949 and was inducted into the schools Athletics Hall of Fame in 1998. Robert received a BA in History from Harvard University in 1953. He married Dorothy E. Galli in 1954, and they lived together in Westfield, N.J. Robert worked at General Electric for 37 years, and served as the Treasurer of International Finance until he retired in 1990. Robert was an active member of the First Congregational Church of Westfield, and Westfield Community Players. He enjoyed singing in the church choir, attending The Metropolitan Opera, and playing golf. Robert, is survived by his wife Dorothy of 62 years, and two children: Robert Smith and his wife Pamela, of Novato, California, and Laura Scaturo and her husband Chuck, of Cranford, New Jersey. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Griffin, Bennett, Macallan, Brett, Greg and Hannah.
